seriously, fredmiranda.com has made me considering for real to replace my Nikkor 50 1.4 with this Sigma 50 1.4, those pictures with sharpness like that are almost close to unreal haha..
Great shot on the kid

Thanks, I am loving this Sigma though. I havent tried the Nikkor AF-D or AFS version but dont think i'll ever need too since this sigma is perfect.
I know sigma has a bad rep sometimes due to copy variations, but if you find one that focuses properly I think its amazing
I took delivery this afternoon of a 105 f/2.5 AIS lens and naturally put it on my D700 as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is raining today in northern California so the only subjects I had to shoot were inside. I chose an orchid sitting on a window sill above my kitchen sink. This was shot wide open. Although it is a grey day, I'm pleased with the image. For less than $200 I picked up what appears to be a gem of a lens. Thanks to all the FMers who've mentioned this lens as a keeper. Mine definitely is...
I'll add another photo taken with an oldie but goodie yesterday when the sun was shining. I bought a copy of the 70-210 f/4-5.6D on E-Bay and have been putting the lens through the paces. It has proved to be very sharp with pretty reliable focusing. That it is a push/pull lens is hardly a drawback for me, though I've never owned one. This was shot wide open, 155 mm at f/4.8. I'm very happy with this lens as well... for under two hundred dollars.
All Gibsons, Yes indeedy. John the guitarist for this session had a gold top, and two really early (50s) Les Pauls. i did a shoot for a CD cover, all old rock and roll era shots, but the shots of the guitars were on a modern looking rack, so didn't really fit the bill...

Terrifically done, Gary, and with a lens I don't think I've seen any images from before.
A good friend has been helping with my education about things Nikon and he waxed eloquently about this particular lens from his film days eons ago. Then I ran into a thread discussing the lens on another forum and reports were glowing. Photos posted looked pretty fine to. I've been increasingly interested in the less well known gems from Nikon and this could be one of them, especially at the price, which should be quite a bit less than $200.
Thanks everyone. I bought it a few days ago in mint condition for $60 which was a bargain. Going rate for good condition seems to be around $90 but deals can be had for much less. It's a fun, light lens which seems to perform pretty well. I enjoyed framing the first pick so I had a natural vignette - the lighter area is actually a gravel road.
