On your FIRST post... that lighting is amazing. You MUST have used some flash on that?
And in your SECOND post... I have always been amazed by your train shots... but these five are absolutely stunning. They NEED to be blown up and printed large.
+ Shot around 5am in winter back in 2003 with a Nikon F2, Nikkor 35mm f2 nonAi and a Velvia 50.
+ no PS manipulation and cropping, just dust cleaning, lol
I took only my lowly D40 with the 18-200 VR lens to my week-long Canada vacation. The combo performed extremely well and proved to be very versatile. I have to say they are perfect for vacations. Here are some shots I got (not the most artistic ones but show what this combo can do in all conditions)
I lset the D40 to Aperture priority mode and ISO 200. I enabled Auto ISO through the menu system (auto iso on, max iso 1600 and minimum shutter speed 1/30sec). I hardly have to change anything other than changing the aperture. The combination of VR on the lens and low noise capability of the camera at high iso makes it almost effortless to take very exposed and sharp pictures.
I've been quite critical of the 18-200 VR in the past (and the truth is that I see some weird distortion going on in a couple of the photos above), but by golly, you prove that an interesting subject and a good eye matter far more than what lens you have mounted on your camera. In particular, that cathedral interior is amazing! Thanks for posting these.
