Pavel, thanks for the accolades. I really don't know much, but I try. I'm shooting 100% film right now while I wait on my D700 to come back from El Segundo, CA. I'm shooting so much film that I need to get a decent scanner especially to get rid of the dust and hairs that keep showing up in my lab scans.

Wow, great shot and cool star trails. Don't you have to worry about your sensor overheating with shots that long? Please excuse me because I don't have a remote for my D700 yet, but how did you time the shot? What aperture was this at?

I "timed" the shot by using a shutter release cable, releasing the shutter, and walking inside until I felt like coming out While inside, I thought of a decent way to calculate long exposure photograph settings, and if it works well, I'll share it here. But this was all guesswork, and I think it came out pretty decent. Shot at F11, ISO 400, for 2612 seconds. I would have turned the aperture and ISO way down, but this was sort of my goof-around test shot. Funny how you can't see me walking up and down the spiral staircase (obviously).

Sensor overheating? Never heard of it, but I learn new things every day. 43 minutes is long, but there are plenty of people who do multiple hour exposures, yes? I wasn't worried about ANYTHING overheating that night The interior lights in the cabin came from a small oven light that barely gave enough light to walk around in the kitchen. If we didn't need the light, I'd have left it off entirely.

You wouldn't see yourself in a 30 second shot let alone a 30+ minute shot. I'd also worry about my camera being out in the elements that cold for so long. I'm happy to see it can take it.

From the same roll as the previous shot:

I'm not entirely sure of the significance of pouring the water over the statues, but it was very interesting. I took this at a local Buddhist temple shortly after new years when Japanese people head to the shrine or temple for the first visit of the year.

Hey, if that's the place I'm thinking of, it's right up the street from me! And, if it was taken recently, Guy has all the information needed about Nikon and the cold weather. It's been downright frigid recently.

This shot gives me a notion that I should get out and try some night shots.

Thanks for sharing,

Matt

Here's a couple of our big boy staring out the porch window longingly. The cold weather's got him down a bit, I think.

As the subject appears to be dogs at the moment, here is one from last year.
We had only had him a few days.

Nice Sarah. You need to go out and spend some money and get one of the T/S lenses. Perhaps the one that I can't afford ... the 24 f 3.5. You'd put it to good use ... and I could borrow it!
