When i want to get real close with it i use my hoya mag rings I have them in 1x,2x,and 4x.
This is with the 2x ring and the 55-200 iirc
this is the same shot almost with the 28 2.8 and the 2x mag ring

^^ Taken in Beach Park, IL after a storm had passed through. Sun shining from the opposite direction made for an amazing light show. Had to grab my gear right a way and head to the "beach".
