Haven't used the 17-40 much to compare.

I didn't notice anything bad about the lens in this particular outing . . but I wouldn't expect to at f/11, either.

What is the best price people have found out there? I'm starting to consider this to replace my Oly 21, i was thinking about going CZ21- but this gets me back in the AF and sub-20mm game for less $$- and so far there's lots of good reports of the FF performance.

Best price I've seen is $1479US at Tallyn's. http://www.tallyns.com/

I'm really interested in this lens. However, I don't shoot wide too often, so I don't know if it's worth the extra cost over the MKI.

Does anyone know how the AF speed compares to the 24-70L?

If you assume that the 24-70 has average AF speed, the 16-35 II is fine. At the wide end there is so much DOF that it can chatter a bit during tracking. Really though, how fast does AF need to be for a wideangle?

Having both lenses, it's my opinion that the mk2 is at least as fast if not faster at focusing than the 24-70.

After playing with both for a few minutes, I would say the 16-35II is difinitely faster in focusing from min-infinity and 1m-infinity.

That's where I got mine . . they don't have any in stock, but it was only about 1 to 2 weeks after I ordered before my number came up.

Is there a head-to-head comparison of the Mark I vs. Mark II somewhere? Actual performance, I mean, not specs...

Unlike other times, I sold the Mk-1 before getting the Mk-2.

Also, I sold my 1D-II's before getting the 1D-III's, as well.

Last thing reported here was $825, but that may have been a fluke. Glad I got rid of mine when I got the 17-40

Well on ebay the last 15 have gone for between 950-1050. I'd say they lost $100 during the past few weeks. I had mine for sale at 1000 plus shipping/paypal and no takers on the buy and sell board. I decided it was not worth $500+ for the upgrade so I kept it.

I sold mine for either $1200CDN or $1250 CDN (can't remember) shipped, but that was the week after the new lense was announed.

The irony is I've probably used mine more in the last two weeks than in the past year...

Here's a few of the Pennsylvania Capital Rotunda ceiling. Couple different focal lengths and f-stops. Mostly stopped down pretty far. Shot in raw, processed in Capture One, standard sharpening (34) and Magne profiles.

Impressive Tim!

I take it this was all done on tripod since you had a 1s exposure.
