Yup just got mine, really is a much better lens than the mkI! Good corner performance! Finally a keeper and a worthy Canon wide angle, well at least after a few shots, so probably need to take a with a grain of salt...

What's the weight of this lens
The lightening of your wallet will compensate for any weight gain over the 16-35 version 1.
I am pretty excited about this lens. I sold my EF-S 10-22 when I bought a 5D recently, so I am without an UWA in either sensor format. Fortunately for my wallet, I will not be going on a trip where I would need it for another six months.

My local dealer got (4) EF 16-35 mk II lenses in yesterday, and I will pick up my reserved one later today. I am very glad that Canon has delivered these now in time for my major trip in late April. I will have time to get to know the lens a little now before my trip, and am hoping for nice results in the f 5.6 to f 8 region.
Now if only the Canon gods will come through with a 1DmkIII just in time. A number one spot at a dealer does you no good until Canon ships them. I know I can not depend on getting a mk III in time, but still, it might happen.

Going on a major trip with a brand new camera may have its perils. I know from experience

Care to elaborate?
Well, one of the fun experiences was with the D60 firmware 1.0.0. As was soon acknowledged and fixed by Canon, the camera was recycling the same image numbers quite often, with the result that it was overwriting its own files. So there I was, at my cousin's wedding, downloading images - knowing that I *did* take that one particular image - but it could not be found anywhere. Film saved the day - on his request the D60 was just backup and my 1N was the primary.
Or the case of shooting a wedding (my own, I was in front of the camera this time) with the brand new 1Ds, with the wrong tone curve uploaded / activated. That was in raw so it didn't matter much, but the whole set would have been trash if it was a jpg-only job. The LCD on that camera sucked so bad that one could not see this.
Or me borrowing a 5D for Africa, and never having the time to review the images in the evening, only to notice on my flight back that the light meter sucks compared to my 1Ds2 / 1D2N and everything was overexposed. I never saw any blinkies on the LCD... I never liked the 5D, and this didn't help much.
Or me borrowing a P45 for a unique shuttle roll-out experience, with only 3 days of practice. When you are on the 18th floor of the VAB and realize that the battery died (again) after only an hour of use, and the spare is in the van outside, you are screwed. The fact that I didn't sleep at all the day (night) before the event didn't help.
All totally avoidable situations which in a pro environment would be catastrophic, and all of which would have been avoidable if I had more time practicing with the equipment at hand. In contrast, I had the 1Ds for over a year when we went to Antarctica and the few pictures that were _technically_ screwed up were in such a minority that it was impressive, given the finicky nature of that camera.
