I wonder if you can get away with a 77mm CircPol + step down ring on the 16-35mk2 if you shoot with a 1D3 w/ 1.3x crop. That would at least provide a short-term fix without having to shell out more money on top of the 1D3 and 16-35.

82mm / 1.28x = 64mm so anything larger than 64mm (ie; 67, 72, and 77mm) should work without mechanically vignetting. 67mm might be cutting it close but 72 and 77mm should be fine. you'd have a hard time finding an 82-67mm step-down ring anyway.

There was a report on another forum today that someone got an email from their local camera shop (Tallyns) saying they had received one. If that is true I would guess they should start popping up pretty soon.

tallyn's sent me an email today saying that they received one copy of the 16-35L. i called immediately and it was already spoken for. i appreciated the update but the fact that they dangled a carrot in front of customers like that was kinda silly. oh well, more should be arriving soon.

Sorry, no, it arrived at the dealer. I'm hopefully picking it up tomorrow and will try to test it on my 5D later in the day. If all goes well I'll post some initial thoughts in about a day from now.
