Just talked to the Camera Store yesterday. They've already took delivery of 4 bodies. More to come and they have a total of around 40 people on the list right now. Again, they're giving priority to CPS members.
Apparently Canon Canada has gone through their dealer's pre-order lists and have picked which photographers the available cameras will be allotted to. I've never heard of them doing this before, so they must expect the camera to be in short supply.
I forgot to mention that I have asked him to open the box that contains my camera so he can charge the battery. That way it will be ready for me to use when I arrive. <>

I got an email from Vistek on Friday that my camera would be in, but then an 2 hours later i got another email saying that they had mistaken. I was supposed to be first on their list, so i can only imagine that they have some sort of directive on who is getting cameras.

khurram1: Just curious, are you a CPS member? It would be interesting to note whether Canon is hand picking deliveries within the CPS orders. We already know they are giving CPS members priority, but this would add another layer of complexity to the matter, making it even less predicitable to determine when one's cameras will arrive.
FWIW, a friend who works at Vistek mentioned having looked at and used the Mark III on Saturday, so they definitely have taken delivery.

Hi......
I'm on order for 2 at Canoga Camera There is a guy who posted on Dpreview, he sounds pretty pissed at them is he right to be
Martin
I can understand his frustration somewhat, but I think he overreacted with them. He didn't say they actually told him he would be the first to have it, they just acknowledged his emails that he wanted to be first and he assumed he was going to be.
On the other hand, I think a retailer should let customers know where they stand on the waiting list. Especially if you're a regular customer. Otherwise it makes more sense to get on as many lists as you can and see who delivers first. Dealers ask for deposits to discourage that practice.
I think they're reluctant to say there are twenty-five people ahead of you, when half of those people may cancel or buy from another dealer who gets a larger shipment. They don't want to turn away potential business, but yet they don't know how many cameras they will get in the next few weeks. It puts them in a difficult position too.
I'd say people are going to need some patience when the demand is so great right now. No sense in firing off nasty emails to your favorite dealer.
The most frustrated people seem to be the ones who define "the list" on their terms. That's just not going to happen at a big LA camera shop with large professional and commercial clients. Even if he did buy a 300 2.8 from them
From my experience, there are hundreds of small, full line camera stores in the U.S. who could have received one or two 1DIII on the first day but had no orders.
I would bet dcmiller is right. When the camera I want is released I will be leaving my order with a small local shop on the hopes they get one and it has my name on it rather than at a larger one where they might get more units but I might be much further down on the list - plus I like to support the little guy.

Toronto. I wasn't there, the info was from a friend who works there. But your story is interesting as it provides addtional confirmation to what my dealer told me, that even within the CPS orders, Canon Canada is deciding who gets the cameras and in what order.

I just got a call from Vistek again just before lunch saying my camera is in The salesperson said that they checked with the canon rep to see what was up and managed to get me one of the two cameras they received. It may be that one of the buyers who was on canon's list ahead of me didn't show up or something - i really don't care - since I got one of the two bodies. It is really strange here in calgary that Vistek got the body before The Camera Store, but like i said - i really don't care
Anyway, I just plugged in the battery - got to say i link the new indicators for charging time and battery life. By the time I'm done at the office today, it should be charged so i can spend some time playing with it Now if only RRS can get me an L bracket for my trip to Big Sur (June 12), i'll be REALLY happy

I'm sure that is exactly what happened with me. Back from Missouri today and got my camera from my friend that picked it up for me. I really think I was their only order. Battery charging now.. very exciting.. going from 20D to this!
