I freely admit to being completely under the spell of a Mark III. As I type this, I am fondling one with my other hand. It really is a very special thing. I have no idea yet if it takes pictures, but boy is it nice to touch. I have only had it for a few hours now, and have no idea how long my whole mind will be overwhelmed by the power it has. And I wish this was a joke response, but it is not.
She really is quite beautiful. And she now knows that she was a number one at my local dealer, which has her purring a little. I have only tried a 10 frame per second burst once so far, and the sound she made was so fantastic that I could hardly stand it. I should perhaps set her to a lower rate, and work my way up slowly to maximum. ...Show more →
The last time I felt these emotions to someone I ended up marrying her .
I think that it's a good think the Mk III is not a woman. That way my wife will be less jealous. That is, so I hope
Now that the 1DMKIII lust has been fulfilled wheres the 1DsMKIII?
It seems that someone has convinced their dealer to put them on a 1DsMKIII waiting list.

Well it's nice to know that Canon Canada has started delivery. Anyone pick up a 1DIII from The Camera Store or Vistek yet
I'm on Vistek Calgary's wait list, but they are going to get their allotment from their Toronto Store and have no idea when Canon is making delivery to Toronto.
Just talked to the Camera Store yesterday. They've already took delivery of 4 bodies. More to come and they have a total of around 40 people on the list right now. Again, they're giving priority to CPS members.
A question for those of you that have received the MkIII and have an L bracket (RRS or Kirk) for a MkII.
I realize that the MkII bracket won't fit the MkIII, but will the new MkIII battery pass through the MkII battery opening in the bracket?
In other words, I am wondering if the MkII bracket could be used on the MkIII with the attachment points relocated.
The RSS L bracket for the Mark II is very close to the right shape and layout to work for the Mark III. There looks like there would be enough room for the battery to pull out OK. The front to back location of the opening in the L bracket is is not centered well on the battery opening, but the battery would clear.
If you ignore the screw location, the Mark II L bracket is not quite right for the curve that fits the front and back of the battery area, and is a little too tight. The surfaces on the camera there are ruberized, but it looks like it would be too much force to get the bottom to contact around the screw area. You might be able to fill the gap with some firm tape to pad the gap, and get contact with a reasonable amount of force.
That brings us to the screw that holds the bracket on. The location is about 0.25 inches off. The particular place that a correct hole needs to be located is about in between the original primary screw slot and the tapped hole that is for non quick release tripod mounting. To just add a hole will not work, because of the surfaces of metal there, and because the new hole would slightly overlap with both the tapped hole and the original slot. You might be able to machine down the metal to get a level surface, and then machine a slot connecting the tapped hole and the original slot that the screw could be used in. It is not something I would consider doing to a beautiful RSS L bracket, but part of my reason is that I still want it for my Mark II camera.
I have just realize that if you want to slide the L brack to the left until there is about 0.8 inches of gap between the bracket and the left side of the camera, the location for a screw would now be in the thin web of metal that in milled out in the bottom of the L bracket. You could add a simple hole, and then perhaps some washers, and possibly make things work. This would be much less of a mess as far as defacing the L bracket. Again, not something I will do, but worth considering if you really need an L bracket now.
I plan to go with a lens plate on the bottom only for a non L solution, until RSS works its magic and makes a plate. After all, it is possible to use a good ball head for a vertical by using the side slot in the head, even though I have not done so in over a year and a half. RSS L brackets are like magic once you use them, and going to portrait and back in seconds with a quick release clamp is so very nice . Other brands of L brackets in general are also likely very nice, but I am RSS all the way, with no experience with other brands.
I will e-mail my Dealer tomorrow as well, and let everyone here knows
their answer. I have the feeling our Dealers will get the 1D MKIIIs in the mean
time approximately.
