I'll add more to the frenzy. I just spoke to my Canon rep today, and he said it will be shipping on the 14th of this month. I'll believe it when I see it, but there is hope ;-)

My ? was just that the batteries (LP-E4) aren't listed for purchase yet. But the WFT-E2A and other accessories are listed. My D30 came with a dual charger too, and I was on the late adopters that got the free 1GB Microdrive and second battery via mail-in rebate for that camera.
I've been told that batteries and the flash will ship when the camera does, not before.
IIRC, in the past, the manual and other docs weren't available on Canon website until a couple weeks after the 1D2, for example, was shipping. I too was looking to read the manual before getting a 1D2, and I had the camera in hand before I could get the PDF...

The japanese PDF manual & pocket guide are already available, even before the camera is the japan market !!
Also - why do they have a battery charger with only one battery included but spots for two batteries - and the Canon USA page doesn't even list a battery as an accessory? Are they having manufacturing problems with the batteries I haven't been able to find the battery online anywhere for purchase, esp Adorama or B&H.
It's either
1) Canon Corporate plot to get you to buy more batteries
2) The charger needs to be physically balanced and tuned at the factory with crystal pyramids to insure it reports "power level" properly, and this requires the weight of charger be balanced left to right as well
3) Gives you the ability to charge two batteries overnight one after another so you don't have to set your alarm clock for the middle of the night to swap them out.
I got a flyer snail mail a couple days ago from Calumet...they have the battery listed for $139 US WITH a part #. I already had one on pre-order, ha!
battery LP-E4 Calumet #EC2785
Hadn't seen Michael's write-up yet, thanks. Only read Rob's.
Really looking forward to the camera.
I wonder how much the new Live Preview feature added to cost of the camera. I don't see myself shooting in any circumstances where I would need that, but you never know I guess.
What price did the 1D MkIIN debut at? About the same?

I can think of when I might use it. My Bigma with a TC doesn't autofocus!
Good news for Capture One LE users. I asked on the Phase One forum if Capture One LE will support the 1dMkIII and they said there is experimental support in 3.7.7 now and the next release will fully support it.
FWIW... my dealer told me today that Canon is telling them the 1DMkIII will ship in May. They have no idea when or in what volume but I got the sense that Canon was pretty empathic about the May part.
