Here's another update on amazon.com. I've been checking my order status daily (see above). Well today I got a message that my order has been delayed and I had to confirm that I still wanted it. The new estimated delivery date is JULY 3.

July 3rd!
this is just getting ridiculous

You are welcome Luís!

From what I have heard, they are extremely reputable dealers that can be trusted. The shipping via GLS costs 29.95 Euros from Germany to France.

Cheers.

Amazon is still telling me June 20th. I also have an order in with Robert's Imaging and they originally said very limited in mid-late May with no volume till June. I hope that still stands correct.

Well, I got to play with one today in the main Canon dealer in Dublin (still one there until 6 this evening for any Irish readers).

Only a couple of things struck me as nice (over all the stuff everyone has talked about), there is a nice CF config that means that the voice recording button takes action immediatly, instead of having to hold it for a couple of seconds before it starts recording. I use it for captioning sports, so that's great.

Also, if you press the button to change autofocus point, it stays active after letting go, which means you can use your right hand to press the button, and then scroll either wheel to move the point left right, or up down without having to remove your eye from the eyepeice (much). Certainly better than before. Talking about late may deliveries in Ireland.

Merv.

I called up the camera store and was told that the last week of may they will start filling orders for CPS members only. Once they have been filled, probably mid June other pre-orders will start being filled.

ZipZoomFly has updated their website to indicate that the Mark 3 will be available on May30th. Originally they had it as available with a 2-3 day delay from the time the order was placed. They still list it as $4999. So far it dosen't look like any of the of the less known vendors will have it early. Is it possible that Canon can synchronize shipment to all U.S. dealers so closely? I am trying to pick one up early for a trip the end of May and so even a week is important to me right now.

OK, I will have the new flash next week. The camera's are still highly limited late May, not any volume till late June.

Damn, Father's Day and Formula 1 US Grand Prix is mid June ... not looking great but not hopeless.

The Camera store has now said that it will be sometime June for the 1DIII - they will not give a more specific ETA then that. It will be a limited supply, with CPS members having their orders filled first and then others on the pre-order list will start receiving their orders.

Well, I've succumbed. Despite several years of being a Nikon shooter, my past month or so shooting an EOS-1V and the preliminary reviews of the Mark III have made me decide to take this step. I just got off the phone with my dealer, I'm 16th on their call list.

I was wondering if anyone has talked to B&H about when they are getting the mark 3. I Called them on Thursday afternoon and i guy told me they had five in stock and I could get it the second week in may, but then I called Friday morning and they had none and didn't know when they were getting them in. Anyone know when they are getting them in or any other retailers in the US.

Thanks,

Jason

The Camera Store (actual name of the place) in Calgary is telling those who order that CPS members are getting first stock, as per a Canon Canada directive.

That is exactly what khurram1 said two posts earlier. By the way, I still do not understand why Canon can give such a directive. I have to admit that I am becoming more and more annoyed especially because I am leaving for a long trip at the beginning of June. Decision time.

I saw that. I was just trying to clarify for our non-Canadian friends that TCS is an acual place, and not just a generic reference to a shop that sells cameras, and that they are indicating it is Canon that told them to do this. Didn't mean to be redundant.

Just to keep everyone's attention, I was able to take a few pictures with the Canon 1D Mk III today. Even handled it twice. It was displayed at the Henry's digital show in Toronto. Did not see any AF problems as stated previously. The screen is great, very fast AF and a lot lighter than the Mark II.
Bonnie

ps Canon would not state when it would be available here in Canada.

CPS membership has its privileges.

The fact is, we all know the cameras will be in extremely short supply. There has to be some way to organize the distribution and this is what Canon Canada has chosen. It's a camera aimed specifically at the pro market. It's appropriate that CPS members, who for the most part are working pros, have first crack at the initial supply. Not to say non-pros and non CPS members are unworthy or second class. Just that there has to be a decision made, and this is it. If you're a working pro and need this camera, then you'll be happy to get it as quickly as possible. Otherwise you wait a month or two longer. It's not the end of the world and your existing cameras will work just fine until you finally do get hold of the Mark III.

FWIW, my dealer also quotes June delivery.

I don't know about Canada, but I can't leverage CPS status as I have said in the US with Canon USA OR with Calumet. I have called them both repeatedly.

I am high on Calumet list so that will determine.

If you are saying that Canon Canada has decided to favor CPS members, and it appears that Canon USA hasn't (unless I haven't called the right person yet with my CPS#) restricted to CPS...well that simply sounds unfair to me. I still have trouble beleiving it is true.

Wouldn't that be cause for the Canadian customers to get pretty mad if south of the border you don't need to be CPS member?

Jim: Canon Canada is independent of Canon USA and sets its own policies. It's quite likely that there isn't a way to jump the queue as a CPS member in the US. Perhaps this kind of policy is easier to set within the smaller Canadian market? But it also seems to be a more Canadian way to do things, if that's an apt description, rather than an outright first come first serve distribution.

Sure, it will upset some Canadian customers, as has already been hinted at in this thread. But again I would argue that it is a reasonable decision by Canon Canada. While the outcry by Canadian pros on a forum like this probably wouldn't be very vocal if CPS members weren't given priority, you can bet that Canon Canada's manager of pro photography services would be inundated by complaints from pros if they weren't able to get first crack at the cameras. CPS in Canada has in the past come under some considerable heat for customer service issues. I don't think they want to dig the hole any deeper.

Pros have been getting first crack at new gear for a loooong time. Both Nikon and Canon have done it forever.

So drop the whining about it. That camera is worth the wait.
