Canon is not going to screw up the AF on what is now their flagship product, especially considering the millions of dollars they stand to make on companies like Sports Illustrated alone.
I'll tell you why they'll screw it up . . until now, I've always bought my new bodies and THEN sold the old ones. This time, I sold the 1D-II's already.

Well, at leat I now know who to unleash my wrath on
Hi,
I did sell the 1DM2, but still have the 5D. I would have withdrawal symptoms if I were without one Canon DSLR. :-)

looks like the camera is slated for a June release in N.America. I checked with Adorama (who was saying end of April a few weeks back) and now they have a June date.
The Camera Store in Calgary is also giving a June arrival date.
After selling my 1D2N the day after the 1DIII release, i'm glad i also replaced my XTi with the 5D. THere is no way i could have gone that long with just the XTi!!
I have two Mk-lll bodies on order from seperate stores on top of both list both said May ! I also spoke today with a store manager at a big store here in Long Island about an hour ago he also said May
Ok, the worst have happened, a reliable source told me it's June 27th and ONLY specialty stores will get them before anyone else. Amazon's pre-order is waaaaaaaayyyyyy off on the release date. It's not June 20th and they won't be getting them in by that date. As for the pricing, it's still uncertain but expect $4500........ :worried:
Hi, Haven't posted before that I can remember but I thought you'd all like to hear this. . .
Just phoned up a shop in Hong Kong and they just received the pricing and delivery for the 1D Mk 111 this morning. Price is HKD31800 (USD4068.00) and delivery is end of May.

Good news is I didn't jump the gun and sell my 1DM2's yet and will wait till they are in hand. Just to much to miss waiting, but then again I don't think this thread would be 166 pages if it were not for the speculations..lol
Do you think that maybe Canon has seen the pre-orders come in, and basically freaked because "demand" is well ahead of supply?
And as such they've pushed back the release date in order to meet the "demand" of the pre-orders? I'm sure they want to avoid having these cameras go for well over $4500 (I'll bet $6k plus when the sellers mention that it's out of stock worldwide) on eBay for those who can't wait for it. Kind of like the PS3 when it first came out. Now they're sitting on the shelves unsold.
How many people have signed up on more than one waiting list? And if each waiting list was submitted to Canon, then the "demand" is artificially increased by this.
First post - started lurking around here after I decided to get a Mk III - considering that I went from the EOS 3 to the D30 for several years - it would be nice to get back to the standards of the EOS 3 vs the D30 and it's wonderful...AF...and CF speed.

This happens with each new model release. Canon understands it, and so do the dealers — which is why some of them won't take pre-orders at all, and some others want a deposit.
I think the delay is more likely due to last minute production issues, such as the AF glitches mentioned in Rob Galbraith's report.
For what iit's worth, I just read an article in Business Daily stating that Canon has placed a ban on advertising any price but the $4499.99 price until June 23rd. The reaseon indicated was to give smaller merchants an opportunity to move their new stock and profit as the larger sellers. I'm actually not a financial guy but I keep up with these sorts of publications for other reasons, threfore I can't explain this stratagy, I'm just reporting something I thought might be of interest. I would guess that after June 23rd, the selling price for the Mark 3 will drop.

Rob Galbraith has a fairly in depth review of the MrkIII with a preproduction model and had issues with the AF, which could be one of the reasons why the camera has been delayed.
After that, our preproduction EOS-1D Mark III is a mess. It can't hold focus on static subjects very well and it can't track moving subjects very well. While Canon didn't provide any details about the autofocus limitations we would encounter in the preproduction body, we hope this is what they were referring to and this is what engineers have been solving since. The autofocus does show signs of brilliance. But we can't check off too many items from our autofocus wish list until a non-beta EOS-1D Mark III is in the house. Which for now, make us as sad as the player in the photo below.
All I have to say, this camera looks pretty sweet but well outside my budget Guess I'll be looking for a used MrkIIN!

I don't doubt the validity of this article. But what bothers me about this, (as well as a lot of other products sold today) is that this sounds like "Price Fixing" which is not supposed to be legal. How do big business manufacturers dictate a price to retailers, with threats of no future shipments of their products if they don't comply, and it not be price fixing? This is something I have been wondering about for years now...!
