As I understand it, they can't legally dictate what price the reseller actually sells for, but they can restrict what price it's advertised for. You used to see lots of references to "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price" or MSRP. Now you more often see "Minimum Advertised Price" or MAP. Then again you'll sometimes see references to "street price," which is what the item is actually selling or expected to sell for.
Apparently, Canon is enforcing the MAP policy. I recently spoke with an online retailer who had posted a lower price. They were given a scolding by Canon. I think if you do a search of online retailers of the 1D3, you will now see $4495 or more.
I spoke the head service man from Canon NZ and they haven't even seen one yet , let alone get upto speed with the servicing of them , amybe they are so good they don't need servicing :-)
I said somthing about the end of June for when we should see them.
Hmmm... what used to be 'late April, early May' (and some even said March) now is June. There really must be something with QC. The good thing is that they have found out now (and probably fixed it), but 'late June' is a real bummer compared to 'late April'.
I'm in no particular hurry, but if we're going to spend a lot of money the sooner the better. If 'late June' is true, then it might be summer before the availability of the Mk III is in line with the demand.
Something that's a real difference compared to the introduction of the Mk II three years ago, is that more and more amatures are interested in buying this camera. Many prosumers that want to upgrade their 30D, 5D or 1D Mk II. The demand is huge... (it wouldn't surprise me if professionals suffer from this)
I am sure it was said on this monster thread before, but the 1dsmkII and 1dmkII releases, were they this late?
OR is the camera even considered late, since an OFFICIAL release date never was announced.
Yeah, I posted about them before. I've had email exchanges with them... very underhanded and rude. They told me it was instock a couple months ago but it didn't ship for a few months. Odd that it can be "in stock" but not ship.
I was told May 11th today by a Canon representative at a demo of the new model at Foto Konijnenberg in The Netherlands. He said that most stores say mid-June because they know that supply will be very limited in May. Canon are unable to cope with the huge demand.

I really hope you are right on that one. May 11th in netherlands will proberly meen the same date for me in Denmark
Someone told here that the Mark III could possibly be over-passed by a new canon camera at 16mp in about 1 year.
Since all the ingredients are pretty new in the MarkIII( lots of them), is that make sense that thye could release a bigger box?
I'm still told May 10 in the U.S. I'm not making any plans to pick up the camera until I'm called, however. I just hope the focusing problem was software, so the 1DsIII is not pushed back.
