It says the dynamic range at low ISOs is about the same as the 1DmkII, then a little further on in describing "highlight tone priority" it says this feature extends the DR of highlights by 1 stop. Am I missing something?

Where was that from? I want one, and would like to get it before 1st April when the World Superbikes roll into Donington...

I ordered it from Calumet in Birmingham. They had 20 on backorder for customers this morning, now they have 21, 1 for me! ETA for delivery is 1st week of March, hopefully 1st of March. Not really excited one little bit you understand Damon!

The 1st of March? Here in the Netherlands they (=Canon) were exepecting the camera to arrive in April of May. They model they demo'd was still a beta.

Hmmm... grey import is an option...

I like everything on this camera except the sensor.
But I'll get one, I already sold my 1D2

In my case I would like to have a 1.6 crop with 10-12 Mpx and/or a FF with 14-16 crop in this body. In that case I would buy two
(framerate is not that important to me)

Calumet in Amsterdam is taking pre-orders; € 4300,00.

The highlight tone priority feature only works at ISO 200 to ISO 3200 range (said on page 12 of the white paper). I am not sure whether I understand this correctly, but I assume the missing ISO 100 setting provides for the 1 stop of dynamic range that this feature utilizes.

The features that appeal to me are.

I.) High ISO Performance, I dislike ISO 1600 shots on my MkII, very unforgiving. Most gyms I am in are ISO 1600, 320, 1.8, no fun.

II.) Focusing adjustments: A lens is a precision instrument, bump it a round for a few years and it could go out. Being able to dial in each lens is appealing to me.

III.) Improved focusing is always good, cross points off center are helpful especially for basketball which is all portrait for me.

I can see myself picking up a clean used one in a couple years. I think I’d like a 300 2.8 before that.

What really is mind bending it is to consider what will be available in 10 years?
What will ISO performance be?

Is anyone bothered by the issue of having the PC sync flash sync speed being dropped to 1/60 of a second? Also, with the new battery system (about time the 1 series got lithium batteries), you will either be shooting all 1D MkIII's, all older 1 series bodies, or else carrying 2 bulky chargers and more bulky batteries. I'm also a bit disappointed with the new WFT-E2a wireless interface using the camera's battery for power. Nothing on the camera itself would be anywhere near a power hungry as that WiFi transmitter.

There are so many really nice, new features with this camera. It's a shame that Canon felt a need to compromise on the shutter sync though.....

People said that vibrating sensor covers were gimmicks for soccer moms' Drebels...
And livepreview was only good for point and shoot Ixus pocketcams....

Scott, would you have preferred a separate battery & charger for the WFT-E2a? I guess it uses camera's battery to minimize the battery related overhead & to minimize the size of the WLAN unit itself.

Many very good features on the camera. One that jumped out at me was the ability to access and set the 580EX II from the 1D Mk3 menu. Now you do not have to enter the settings on the flash itself. Much improved ergonomics.
