Thanks for the responses. I really hoped they wouldn't mess with the ability to switch from registered AF point to auto by using the two side-by-side buttons. That is my favourite function on the 1 series!

Same here, I think they got carried away trying to make the screen bigger and removing all those buttons. I myself like the 2 handed layout. It is second nature to me. I hated that multicontroller on the 5D and 20D. Maybe over time I would get used to it, but I wish they would have kept the buttons the same.

I don't mind the 2-handed layout generally, but I think that it needed to be refined. Switching between navigating between files and deleting files is very awkward on the current cameras, especially if you find yourself in total darkness. I'll reserve my final judgment until I work with the camera.

I am just off the phone with a Dublin Dealer. They think the price wil be 4700 euro, but are not sure. They want a 25% deposit if you want onto the waiting list! 100 euro, sure, I can understand that. 25% up front?

I can see a flight to new york in my future.....

Why are Canon prices so high in Ireland and UK? The largest Finnish internet dealer (who presumably buys their gear from Germany) today lowered the pre-order price to 4082 euros (including 22% VAT), with no deposit. And this has traditionally not been the lowest price European Canon vendor. Their site shows 6 pre-orders registered this far.

If not have been published before; here is a Canon Japan Promotional Interview video about the 1D MkIII:

http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos1story/GalleryInterviewVideo.swf

And a presentation and gallery about EOS 1 system, including the 1Ds MkII and the new 1D MkIII, at:

BTW: The gallery has a demo of the 10 fps shoot, with a golf lady player to see how it looks .

Not sure if this was asked, but the ISO50 is expanded, so does that mean it's not true ISO50? They still don't have the technology to get a true ISO50 sensor out?

So what is the verdict - does the MKII retain the ability to use two back buttons for different AF points?

I am already a little bummed that only 19 of the AF points are user selectable.

And Warehouse Express are totally unresponsive when you ask when the shipment from Canon will arrive. Not even any information whatsoever. I was going to order a pair and they showed not the slightest interest in furnishing me with any of the latest Canon delivery information. Amateurs!

As usual, Calumet will get my business......

Me too, I want a 5D with these features (don't need 10 fps).

I guess there are many of us out there waiting for that to happen!
Although I must say it's getting harder with the minute to withstand... I'm doing that for quite a long time now, haven't got myself a DSLR and if I go on like this, will probably never do so
what to do... what to do....?!

Any word on whether or not this will have continuous shooting speed selection? It would be awesome (and almost necessary if you ask me) for it to have say, 3fps/5fps/8fps/10fps modes. 10fps is way overkill for a lot of situations and it would suck to have to waste time/shutter clicks worrying about those shots.

The white paper says it has low-speed continuous shooting at 3fps, and high-speed at 10fps. So there's quite a gap there.
But then again, the printout I've got here states an introduction price of $3999

I am sure it will be like the 1D Mark II where the top speed is adjustable in the personal function menu (PF 19) (or the custom function menu naturally in the case of the 1D mark III).

I don't know if this has been posted yet ( I don't have time to read all 50 pages at the moment) but here's a nice hands-on review complete with videos.

Kind regards

I have read the 50 prior pages and haven't commented yet, but in general I have to say I am pretty enthusiastic about the camera. I've been contemplating a 1-series bodies for a variety of reasons... and for a long time -- this camera might be enough to make me jump.

More resolution would of course be appreciated, but the overall feature set is incredible... and the IQ enhancements seem like they may make a huge difference. Maybe more important on this round than simply MP; we'll have to wait to see how the real-world photos turn out. I do a variety of work with my 20D: landscape / cityscape, portrait, event / wedding, low-light, etc, and I am struggling to find a reason not to upgrade.

I'm not that happy about the prospects of Canon re-assessing the price (i.e. >$4K for US after they already said $4K in the white paper), but that [original] mark seems appropriate. Who wouldn't want the camera for less, but I can't really argue or help smiling as I continue to read about the features.

All three of those links are selling the 1D2, not the 1D3.

Hmm. You all staying in Europe and Middle east look quite sad with your prices there. The price is quite bad there... At least its pretty good here in Malaysia and Singapore...

Sorry to rain on the preorder party - but in any reviews, has anyone compared the high ISO shots vs. the 1D2N? The ISO 6400 shots on imaging-resource were really clean - but I'd like to see a 3200 vs a 3200. Or some estimation of the actual number of stops improvement.
