Just for the record I got mine this week. I cannot upload here but I THINK i have focusing issues a little bit. I have a bunch of shots in great light and I checked in BreezeBrowser for focus and they are all OOF.

I will post them online at image shack.

Also I have firmware 1.0.8 and serial number of 516657

Ryan

I did forget to add I was using the 24-70L. Now I am not positive that this is a tack sharp lens because I never really tested it (don't know how really to do that), but I always got good shots with this and my 30D.

I had some al servo problems , but I am not quick to say the camera is at fault, as it could be user error, light, shake etc..There has to be some time to learn the camera and its settings before I am going to assume there is a malfunction. I am anxious to find some good action to test it on, a rodeo show or something!

Mods - if this post is somehow inappropriate, please just delete it, I am just trying to help some folks out here...

Hey there guys! In reading all the posts out there, I didn't realize people were STILL having so very much trouble getting their hands on a Mk III. I was able (luckily) to put money down on a Mk III and ended up getting it the same day.

I just bought a rebel XTi (for my Dad) here on the forums, and coincidentally the member that I bought it from was looking for a Mk III as well. I pointed her at Tempe Camera (my local camera store), and she was able to get second in line.

Now bear in mind, it isn't like this company gets vast amounts of these cameras in. They seem to get a minimum of four every two weeks, sometimes more than that.

What has been good with them though is the simple fact that no one seems to be pre-ordering through them. As a result, when I put my money down, I was 1st in line. At this moment, I think they only have something like two people in line, so the next person that called would be third.

The biggest drawback to me personally is I had to pay in full. I was lucky and got it the next day, but it is possible that if you miss a shipment, you might end up waiting two weeks if you were particularly unlucky.

Anyway, I just figured I would pass along the info in case you are interested.

And no, I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just thought I would try to help out people that are struggling to find the camera.

A more general version of this recommendation would be: Simply call around to your local camera stores, whoever and wherever they may be. Apparently quite a few of them are similarly situated.

I find it hard to understand why a reputable camera shop would require full payment beforehand. A deposit makes sense, to make sure that people are serious, but full price for an item for which there is no guaranteed delivery time?

This is a big warning sign to me at least! I would not do it even with my trusted local shop, where I have bought dozens of expensive pieces of equipment.

If this post is NOT an advertisement for Tempe Camera, what would an advertisement contain? The disclaimer notwithstanding, this is a thinly disguised ad for the store.

hold on hold on... Tempe Camera is in my city, and IS reputable (theyre even an authorized Canon repair center).

Theyre not out to rob people, but as many local stores are small and don't keep stock on hand, they need to be SURE they'll make a sale if someone orders. It's not like they can hold on to 20k in equipment (about 4-5 mk3s) just on the hopes that your small deposit (which is refundable) will guarantee a sale.

I would NOT do this online, but if it was a local store, then I'd be ok with it. I just wouldnt be ok with waiting weeks.

Canon to address 1D Mark III auto focus in August
July 6, 2007 4:57 PM PDT

Chuck Westfall, Canon's spokesman and all-knowing camera tech expert, has promised to address questions about how well his employer's new high-end EOS-1D Mark III digital SLR handles autofocus--but you'll have to wait until next month.

In June, photographer and consultant Rob Galbraith raised concerns about the new $4,500 camera's autofocus abilities on his blog, but Canon has remained mum about the issue.

Westfall could provide a response in August, though, in a monthly column he writes for a photojournalism publication, The Digital Journalist.

"I'll have more on EOS-1D Mark III autofocusing in the next edition of Tech Tips," Westfall said in the July issue.

Seeming there are a sizeable number of people complaining about the autofocus of the 1d3 do you think it is worth buying it before the 26th? A grey market model is being offered to me for the equivalent final price of US$4000 cash

I would say the title of your post is a little misleading. I have seen no such admission & having spoken to various Canon insiders have heard no such thing. The opposite actually.

It's complaining about AF in specific circumstances (High temperature, Bright light, AI-servo). I'm not justifying or making the problem look small, but in all other circomstances it looks to be the best you can get. Canon should address this ASAP.

To be honest, I would not buy it. If it turns out there is a real problem in the MIII and it can be fixed with firmware, then you might be OK. However, if it turns out to be something else, and Canon does agree to fix it, you might not be able to get your fixed for free.

$4000 is not a bad price, but it is not great either. If there is a real problem with the MIII, and Canon is eventually forced to admit that, even if they fix it they will have to drop the price.

Wait until this sorts itself out and you will feel a lot better about your purchase. Otherwise, you will always be looking at every picture afraid that the problem will occur.

Do you really think Canon would charge you for fixing a defective camera?
I can/will not believe that!

no I did not miss it. The association of the name Canon with the words words " admits fault " implies a connection which does not exist. Best to stick to the facts.

Cheers,
