Yep Wally is the hero on DPR right now. I'm not sure why I went to DPR before here this am but it paid off. I saw his post when it was 8 minutes old and it sounds like I ended up with their next to last one. News travels fast on the Internet!
I cancelled mine at Calumet. I'll have my Mark III from BH tomorrow (got the tracking code). It's funny that I ordered my camera from Calumet in early March but kept being told I was at a different part of the "list"... yet I could call BH this morning and get it tomorrow. It's just funny!
Greg, I was reading an article at Rob Galbraith the other day. Apparently the AA filter was not much of an issue in terms of 1D2 sharpness - the far more significant problem was a blurring that appeared only in jpeg images (not raw images).
In general it is possible to make any image clean (noise free) by blurring it to some degree or by filtering out high frequency details, especially at high ISO. Some cameras do this more so than others and get a reputation for producing clean images, while others do this less so and get a poorer reputation even though they retain more image detail (e.g. a 5D vs a 1Ds2). Others are just plain noisy no matter what.
The amount of USM needed to enhance the sharpness of an image may well compete against the requirement for a lesser amount to prevent exaggeration of the noise (or require a different threshold value that also affects sharpening). A simple USM comparison is therefore not entirely fair or representative of overall camera performance, even though it may be interesting.
my spare battery came in today.
Vistek got 5 spare batteries in and so far a total of only 3 cameras. i would have thought that it would have taken longer to get accessories in.
I have cancelled my order at HOH, because the delay came from May 31th to
July 13th estimated.
HOH is a very serious shop in Germany, and they proposed me to
cancel my order and refund me when they were told the 1D MKIII will be
delayed. They have a really great communication, and I advice anyone in
Europe to consider this shop for future purchases.
That said, I have ordered the 1D MKIII at my nearby shop, which is slightly more
expensive, but will have the camera hopefully in June. They are friends, and
really professional dealers. Very kind and very fast, my favourite shop, from
far.
