Well, it might be here because of how this affects Nikon.
Personally, if I didn't have an investment and was looking for a pro level camera, I would probably go with this Canon. The ergonomics might suck, but I could probably learn to get around that. Other than that, the camera has most of what I could possibly want in one place, even if I only occasionally used it.
My hat's off to Canon, and hopefully it will get Nikon to up the ante on this side. I'm not too concerned about beating Canon, but it's time to stop saying the D2Hs is "good enough" and move forward.
As for 10fps vs. 8fps, it might be overkill. Except for those times that it allows you to capture the exact shot you were looking for. I felt the difference between 5fps on the F100 and 8fps on the F5 was a pretty big difference too, so somewhere (read sports photograpers, even wildlife photograpers in certain circumstances) it could come in useful.
The live view LCD and ability to do real-time work with a laptop could also be a big plus for those that could use it. (Are you listening Nikon?)
Whatever complaints I might come up with about Canon, I doubt I would ever tell someone I think they made a mistake choosing this camera. I may not be willing to switch, but give me a camera like this in the Nikon line and I might prematurely upgrade my D200 that already does more than I can use! I can hear my wife groaning already.

you should ask that to the people who decided to make 2 forums one for canon and one for nikon. and oh yeah the rest of the non competitors forums...
I find this thread a lot more interesting than the "what the D3 will be" threads we see every now and then. At least this thread gives some indication of what is to come with the D3 compared to the wishful thinking of the D3 threads.
nice to see that this thread has a lot more replies than its canon equivalent. after all nikon shooters seem to be not so happy with their gear and really worry about 'the competition'
Why do you get so defensive? It's just a discussion about a very good new camera that most people here won't buy anyway and gives some valid guesses about what is there to be in the D3.
OK, feel good comment: the D2Hs still has a bigger RAW buffer.
BTW, I don't visit the Canon or other forums every day (why should I?) so it's good for a thread like this to make people here aware of what else is happening.

He's probably a Nikon diehard fanboy. While I like Nikon A LOT, I still keep an open mind to what other people have. If Canon comes out with something thats simply insane for cheap then why should I sit around idly?
Apparently canon released their specs of new toys. I just thought this might interest a few of you because all of the speculation in the canon board and how it'll compare to the nikons
Gotta love Canon
This latest addition to Canon's flagship camera is an indication that the Canon industrial spies are working hard to extract info from Nikon ~ which indicates that Nikon has a line-up of up-coming pro dslr cameras that might make Canon users jump ship to Nikon
So what does this mean? The Canon 1D mk III is a rushed camera in order to compensate for the loss they might have when the latest Nikon flagship cameras are released...
Let's just hope I'm right...otherwise, Nikon is really screwed

I can't believe that nikon won't come with a competitive camera too. I just hope it's not only a huge leap in technology, but will also deliver managable files. i don't need to, but sometimes i shoot @8fps. man! my hd space is reducing fast that way, not to speak of the time needed to evaluate your shots. 14-bit raw sounds very nice. but i was happy when i bought a dual core system. i think the files will be huge and that's not good for my quick - n - steady workflow
apart from that: i don't have the funds for another body... so i will be drooling at the local camerashop again... looking at 1D and D3 bodies which i can't afford... and to be honest: don't need. but to be honest again I WANT ONE!!!!

i heard the same things said when the D2h was released or the first 1D... trust me this race isn't over yet. within 2 years all soccer moms shoot with this whale and we really need more advanced technology...
another point: why is this in the Nikon forum?
One important difference between this camera and earlier models, is that, for many photographers, it will not only replace its predecessor, but other models as well. It has enough features and resolution to compete with more or less anything. With earlier models, and current Nikon models, there has been a choice between speed, resolution and features. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
Why is this on the Nikon forum? Because it's a milestone camera, and something we will all compare the next Nikon with, either we like to admit it or not.

I don't hope the next nikon is a low level coolpix. then we have a lot of differences to discuss
Guys don't get me wrong i'm just fooling around...
Canon releasing a new dslr with flash boom bang features, hmmmm, sounds like Canon is preparing for a big storm ~ and that storm is the next killer Nikon dslr with FF and DX features and some of Nikon's engineering marvel, whatever it is.

The next one will be the D3RS, in an F6 body, absolutely silent, 15fps and millions of MP. Noise free ISO 25600 obviously. There will be choices of two kinds of single malt from a tap on the side, and a little room with a bed, for resting during long assignments
Just browsed through the new Canon camera white pages over at the Canon forum section. I´m impressed, very impressed! If i had the opportunity to switch today i would have done so based on current specs. However, i do not think the fat lady sings for Nikon just yet and i am curious about how they will counter it. Either way it needs to be done quick because this Canon camera is gonna attract busloads of PJ´s, no doubt!
Could someone tell me what was wrong with the previous Canon 1D MKll that caused them to design this one from the ground up?
And is 10 fps going to buy even a sports shooter anything?
Is 10 MP`s really needed for PJ or sports shooting?
One more question, isn`t the D2Xs considered Nikon`s premier sports / PJ body and not the D2Hs?

hopefull the new flash will work a bit better, didn't read that it would though.
the cross af sensoer only work up to f2.8. bit disapointing.
I don't think many people shoot sports with anything much faster than this, although I am not disagreeing, but its a start

Chris, thats offensive whether or not Raymond thought so. It wasn't directed to you, and you had nothing worthwhile to add. For someone thats just started posting, might be best not to get offside with people so early.
the fact that they wont work with an f4 lense would be a bit of a bummer, your just relying on the 26 non cross sensors. i know in my d200 the cross sensor is more reliable than the others.
