My guess is that YOUR dream camera will come this fall.

Probably so, but too late for this life. And I will will holding depreciated 1Ds MK IIs and D2Xs in September. Oh, well.

From the White Paper

http://www.robgalbraith.com/public_files/Canon_EOS-1D_Mark_III_White_Paper.pdf

the X-sync is now 1/300 . . not 1/500 yet, but still, better than 1/250 . . by a hair.

It still has less linear resolution than the 1Ds MK II from 2004.

According to the white paper

http://www.robgalbraith.com/public_files/Canon_EOS-1D_Mark_III_White_Paper.pdf

on page 10, the pixel size of both the 1Ds-II and 1D-III is 7.2 microns.

What Shane said . And speaking of which, about 16 minutes ago someone posted a 1DMKII and 580EX on the buy and sell. Won't be the last, I'm sure. Let the good times roll.....

I'd buy one tonight if I had the cash (and if they were available). Since neither condition is met, my money is safe... for the time being...

My favourite feature: ISO 6400. And that weather sealed 580 looks pretty tempting too!

Another interesting feature (page 13 of the white paper) is the new sRAW format. It's only 2.5 megapixels instead of the 10.1 megapixels. Sounds like they're binning pixels to come up with this.

Could be perfect for PJ's

Holy cow! Look at the location of the 19 f/2.8 cross-type, high-precision AF sensors on page 16 of the White Paper!

Another interesting note are the new batteries. 40% less volume and 46% lighter... page 37 of the white paper.

I think live LCD would be quite useful for those pro shooters trying to get a shot over someone's head or something. How many times have you seen a sports shooter or paparazzi raise the camera over their head trying to get a shot over the shooters who are closer to the action? I think it was also intended for surveying the scene around you without having to be tunnel-visioned by the viewfinder, and not be situationally aware of what's around you. I think most war photojournalist would find this extremely useful.

interesting to see if 14 bits bring anything useful for this sensor.

Oh yea and completely new eyepiece design and new eyepiece cup to go with it (incompatible with the older eyepiece accesories).

Hot dang! The white paper clarifies what this "AF micro-adjustment" is about.

It's a way the PHOTOGRAPHER can adjust the AF to correct for front and back focusing. No more trips to Canon for this. You can even do this for up to 20 individual lenses!

Nirvana!

I must be dreaming!
