Yeah, but you also choose to live below sea level on the ocean.
Well, I don't know where Tentacle lives, but I'm happy to live in the 25% or so of Holland that will still be above sea-level if the sea-barriers break
It's all mirrors baby Including COSTAR, the Corrective Optical Space Telescope Axial Replacement, that had to be employed to correct the main mirror flaw. No diffractive optics out there.
And it doesn't just have IS, Hubble has Über-IS: The Pointing Control System (PCS) uses gyroscopes to keep the Hubble aimed: It can keep a laserbeam, firing from Los Angeles, aimed within a dime-sized radius at San Francisco.
Sorry for going off-topic
Gyroscopes are the ultimate IS. One of the FM members I met up with locally here about a month ago had the Ken Labs Gryroscope and claimed to be getting more stops than with Canon IS: http://www.ken-lab.com/stabilizers.html

Well, anyways. I want my Big Erwin. I want it small and I want it at PMA. What's the phone number for this council and how do I say "Knock it off" in Japanese?
One thing for sure, the new camera is not nicknamed Erwin and the person it was supposedly named after was only babbling about speculations taken elsewhere including here.
Tentacle SPECULATED the following:
5D Mk II: 12 Mpixel entry level full frame
1D Mk III: 12 Mpixel 8-10 fps full frame sports shooter in pro body
1Ds Mk III: 22 Mpixel 4 fps full frame studio / reportage shooter in pro body
3 full frame cameras, without internal conflict or competition, 3 separated markets.
And ok, with 12 I mean 12.7 for the 5D. Just like the 20/30D transition, I don't foresee a resolution bump, so no new sensor. It's also why I expect that the 40D will NOT skip a resolution and jump to 12 Mpixel, that would damage 5D Mk II sales too much. Whatever else Canon might do in order to distinguish itself from the D80, D200, K10D and the Alpha 100 remains to be seen.

I just hope the 1Ds III has a bigger buffer or that 4fps will be more like 2 after a good burst.
Well, it seems that this is "The birth of a legend " finally. Shouldn't a legend have a big buffer and a lot of other stuff? It may have a price tag well over $8K USD.
That's it, whatever and whenever Canon comes up with a 1D for less than $4,500 I'm getting one and I'm gonna call her "Erwin" (Note, it's ERWIN, not Irwin nor Edwin).
Hate to add more lines to a rumor thread that don't add any more info, but what the heck, everyone's doing it so why can't we?
And just to add some info to my post I'll summarize the current prices (B&H) of Canon's DSLR lineup
Perhaps I missed 50 pages or so, but I'm not seeing many rumors. This PMA looks to be another dud. Who are Erwin Putz and Jack Bauer? They don't post in the Canon Gear Forum.
Could anyone shed light on this question for me? If(big if) Canon were to release a new product, say an upgrade to the 1D MKII N, how long in the past has it taken before the release date? Just curious because I'm in the market for 2 new pro bodies, but If there were to be a new camera, and it was going to be released this November or December, thats quite a wait, so i need to decide if i should pick up a 1D MKII N now, and a new model later if they do announce it.
You don't have long to wait to find out. Canon hasn't been too impressive in a while though IMO (I said that before and got attacked and I'll get flamed again for not bowing in front of my 5d) but that's my opinion. I'm waiting on news from the 1 series front so I can make some decisions too. All the rest of the speculation is just ho hum to me, but others are excited about it.
The current gear is very good, but Canon's 30d and 400d were not in the least impressive. They completely stiffed PK last Sept. and they may or may not do it at PMA. No one wants to believe that though, so everyone keeps telling themselves Canon will have big announcements soon. My take is that they either will, or they will not, but either way, it's out of my control.

Usually, around a month to six weeks between announcement and availability.
Regards,
So a new mount (or submount) with higher priced lenses.
Did anyone else think "maybe they should first make sure the current lenses meet spec"? That poor photozone.de guy can't find a non-defective 70-200 2.8 IS
