Personally I think we will see minor tweaks this year, maybe a 40D which is essentially a 30D with the sensor from the 400D, this will make the Nikon D80 go away, a few lens tweaks. Maybe a price drop on the 5D to get some of the people going for Nikon D200's to go with a slightly more expensive 5D instead. This will push Nikon back to number 2 spot.

Maybe some new point and shoots, a couple of older models will fade away....

The only people that really truely wooley care is forum folk. Maybe good for the ego and some marketing, but making money is whats important for these guys.
People buy the D200 becuase it has superb ergonomics, weather sealing, 5 frames a second, cls, blah blah blah ,etc etc etc. If a 35 mm sensor was the highest priority, or MUST (professional use) have the extra DR or noise, they would simply get the 5D. I nearly did, but there was just not enough to go the 5D for the overall shooting I did. And with the immenant introduction of the Fuji S5 pro, there's even less reason.
The thing I find interesting is this continual reference to a new lense mount, like it was necessary for Canon to have quality WA lenses??
Canon is perfectly capable of producing a much higher quality WA, they instead decide to go with "good enough".
It's one thing to bring out a new line/format to compliment an existing one, and another to alienate your entire customer base(not that they haven't done it before).
Bigger lense mount = more weight and more cost
but what about the possibility of bridging the line between 35mm and medium format, ... medium format quality and lens signatures but packaged in a 35 body....
just a thought..

Being a Geologist, I'm hoping for some form of rock recognition system in Digic IV. It could use the optical properties of the minerals (colour, reflectance, crystal habit, lustre, and cleavage) plus their relative abundances to make a call on the rock type in EXIF.

I'm pretty sure that's doable with the 250 band hyperspectral full frame 80MP sensor that Canon is developing for the 1Ds Mk4NRS II.
I just hope they don't forget about the mm accuracy differential GPS receiver with inertial measurement unit and the L1/L2/L5 and GLONASS compatible GPS antenna that mounts on the hotshoe.

Well that would take larger and different lenses...there is no free lunch.
Why do you think the body would remain the same? People think physics can be ignored to make their camera better. Bigger sensor = heavier and more expensive gear. The lens mount will not change, mark my words.

Evidence? None, I bet. It might happen, but its not likely to be the only Canon DSLR there. March 1 will be the 20th anniversary of the introduction by Canon of their EOS system.
I would love to see Canon break the mould and come out with a sensor with a genuine 25 ISO or lower. Despite advances they seem to be permanently stuck at 100 ISO as if that were anywhere near the slowest film you can (could?) buy.

Buy a neutral density filter. Not perfect, but it works very well. On the 5D, ISO 50 is available because they clip the dynamic range by almost a full bit. So ISO 25 would be worse. To make the sensor native 25 ISO would probably cut out the high end ISO 3200 and 1600. I think there is much more demand for ISO 1600 than ISO 25.
