Why am I always disappointed by Canon's announcements on lenses ? No announcement beyond 35mm ? No 200-400 or even 400 f/5.6 IS ? Agreed, the 1D III looks realllllllly good.
The new 16-35 II has a larger front element, 82mm filter size and a new hood. I am expecting superb performance from this lens, I guess time will tell.
From the white papers. it looks like the camera and the software both have GPS support, which should take care of the 16 or so pages(guessing) of bickering about that subject a few hundred pages ago.
It doesnt seem like thaat big of a deal but the new 580ex is inaudible. I think that is the greatest thing ever. After I use my 580 for a wedding I always hear those annoying whirring and beeping noises in my head for the next 2 days. Thank you Canon.
"The new Off Camera Shoe Cord OC-E3, Compact Battery Pack CP-E4 and Speedlite Bracket SB-E2 also allow sealing against dust and moisture, giving photographers a complete system to achieve off-camera lighting effects in difficult weather conditions. "
With a metal foot on the 580 now (coming from someone who has broken them), I hope the OC-E3 is finally durable too.
Although each time I've had the shoe on the 580 break, I always thought, well at least it didn't rip the hot shoe of the camera. I'd rather break a $3 piece of plastic (which Canon charges $7 shipping for BTW) than the camera body.

Do you think there is room for the 40D announcement? Or is this it?
I doubt it. They won't want to steal any thunder from the new pro series camera. I'm disappointed as well, but what I really want is a sub $2000.00 FF camera. Maybe they'll drop the price of the 5D? I can only hope.
