I've just thought of a simple solution for those who don't like the sound of the low pixel density of the projected D1v for wildlife shooting - just buy the new D1s!
At 22MP for FF that is plenty dense!
Dunno why the guys did not think of it! ;-)

I think some of us are using the D1 or the Erwin as a way of referring to the removable grip option in the now deleted Erwin's page, as distinct from the 1D Mark III etc rumour variant which is the same integrated body as the 1Ds II etc ... Confusing I know...
BTW I see Canon Australia has just about got rid of the last few of its 1D III Ns with the uprecendent $750 rebate.... Bodes well for a quick release of whatever they call it...

It will make a nice read if it does get announced. Interestingly though, we've not had any announcements for Canon training. We do have an Olympus 'roadshow' this week. That should be a blast, they can show off their 18 new point and shoots!

Yes, only 1 new EOS camera. No 2nd and 3rd camera accompanying this new release.
I think most of the main digital imaging websites should have news of the new camera by those times unless Canon decided that it prefer to have an exclusive release (only in Canon sites) about the new camera.

Re Olympus - I have to admire them for the SP-550 UZ - the specs and price are compelling for someone wanting to upgrade from a P&S and not wanting to / needing to enter the expensive multi-lens world of DSLRs... I't will be interesting to see the actual image quality / noise etc.. I love the way Olympus "fights the good fight" with inovation and has since the days when they came out with really small / light film SLRs that pushed the market in that direciton.. They have survived and thrived when may of the others (Yashica, Minolta etc) didn't make it... (still I own Canon)
Actually, I did mean to say 'except for the SP-550'. Have already used it and it is really really nice. So far the king of the hill will big zoom compact cameras is concerned. It was a pre-prod unit.
However, it did have one of the most interesting features.... 1 second buffering of 5 x 1MP photos (I think it was one or three MP) . So before you press the button, it has already taken 5 shots. Just so you don't miss the action. Very innovative.
The other cameras though are a bore. Compared to what they are really capable of. I own a C-7070 and that is a fantastic camera. What everyone's hoping for on the roadshow is the E1 replacement (EP-1?). But I'm being cynical so as not to get my hopes up.
It should better be a 1DsMk3 or something bigger. DON'T come with only a freaking 40D... I don't Canon whether you sell enough 30Ds or not, but I want something bigger. Something huge. I really think we aited long enough now.
Ok, something diffrent. That is really a sad point. It's NOT good at all that Canon dominates the pro market like that. It's the same with every other segemnt. ( take CPUs or GPUs) We are only getting further through strong competition, and that's a thing which doesn't exist at all. schame on you nikon and all the otheres.

I agree.... I soooooo hope that Nikon has the two D3 series ready and at PMA based on Sony's CMOS sensor and they make a surprise attack on the pro-market at the PMA... They have already taken a lot of the mid market in many countries with the D40/D80/D200... As I posted here before - serious competition promoted innovaitn and feature rich, price competative products... All very good for the consumer.. However I suspect it could be the D60 for now with the D3s later this year waiting on Sony to get their sensor finalised and their FF camera ready (August??)

Dunno what Canon can be thinking if they don't replace the 30D. Nikon should stay ahead of Canon sales in DSLR's for the first time in ages.
Still, I suppose just one announcement on the 22nd does not mean that they might not bring out another camera over PMA - they have staggered releases before.
