Cal, I love this! It's a beautiful image in itself - but it's also an image within an image. It looks like a horizontal tree too... Get it blown up big on a wall!
This is super! It could also be a huge tree laying horizontially. If you were to rotate it 90 degrees CCW, you would see what appears to be a large tree with branches standing in the fog.
wow, what a great photograph. i'm headed to VT (east calais) for thanksgiving, hoping to spend some time out with the camera. thanks for the inspiration!
Incredible shot, Cal!! I can't imagine anything better for the topic. There is certainly nothing around here in LA that will come close. That - coupled with the fact that I've never been up at dawn in my life might mitigate against my even entering anything this week. Bravo!
What can I add to what's already said? Bravo Cal!
OK, I'll comment on your signature:
1) You and I are not getting younger, but your eyes are NOT failing you! The inner eye continues to improve, and it shows in your work.
2) When hands shake, there can always be a tripod to the rescue.
3) Your brain works more than occasionally, and it is definitely NOT foggy!
Thank you, everyone You embarrass me a bit with your praise, actually... Having been through this a few times though, "winner" predictions worry me - I have a couple of seconds and several other high placings, but "winner" has eluded me in spite of enthusiatic comments You all provide such a high level of competition, that we'll just have to wait and see, eh? Duane, good question, and I regret that I have to give the honest answer - no! What caught my eye when I got out of my car at the canoe access was, first of course the quality of the light, next, the East-West light gradient, the vertical symmetry of the reflection, and the into-infinity effect of the line of trees up-river. Only when post processing did I notice the potential of the "horizontal tree", and even so I discounted it because it reminded me (due to symmetry) of the "fake trees" the cellular companies are using for their transmission towers in these parts. Your response to it has thus been a (welcome!) surprise and revelation to me! Best of luck to all - I'm sure you will take your "best shots at me" so to speak
This is a beautiful picture that screams ‘early morning’.
I drive to work across foggy fields every morning but I quickly abandoned the idea of that kind of landscape after seeing your photograph.
Excellent job Carl, congratulations…
I really like this shot. For some reason it ain't getting nearly enough votes, not a big fan of the current high vote holders myself. But who cares, you've got an awesome shot there!
