I just hope you're not paying by Western Union ;-)
Not at all. Every store in Canada has a lower price than the one at B&H (I always buy there). This store has the best deal. By the way, 50 f/1.2 is cheaper in Canada than 35 f/1.4L
Just picked one up! Can;t wait tho Adorama dosnt know on ship time yet... Im having to sell one of my 1d mark II N's to fund but why not I never used it anyways... With the spare cash im hoping to get an 85 1.2L II or a ps3 for the nephew and me

Looks like you're paying less than us who preordered at the two major online retailers. I just hope you're not paying by Western Union ;-)
Not sure what kind of deal you got but anyone paying list price or close to it should have their head examined. I think this lens will be commonly available for 15%+ off, or about $1350 (or less).
It will probably follow something like the 85L II. You can get this any day for about $1850 vs. the $2200 retail.
I don't read Japanese so I have no idea whether this is the case or not but I was hoping for the eminent release of this lens so there would be something interesting to discuss. It's been a little boring on the Canon forums lately.

This thread keeps sening me e-mail saying there is a new post.... but I keep coming back and seeing no new post. Anyone else? Whas-up?
Same here.
Jeff, can you please check this?
The problem seems to be restricted to this thread and started only yesterday.
I think it may be more than this thread, and I sent an e-mail to Fred last night to check into it. I'll let you know what I find out. Needless to say, we have some forum glitches occurring.

PS: I realized it may simply be the 'page turn' forum code error, which, by the way, I recently termed "The Mancuso Paradox"...
"The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM is on track to ship in December 2006 in North America, says Chuck Westfall, Director of Media and Customer Relationship at Canon USA.
A notice appeared this week on Canon's website for the Japanese home market, stating that the lens' release has been pushed back to mid-January 2007. But this announcement doesn't reflect a global change in its delivery schedule, says Westfall.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM was announced on August 23, 2006. Canon USA has put the estimated selling price at US$1599 in the U.S. Also in August, Canon unveiled the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. This lens began shipping in North America starting in the latter part of October 2006."
This means there is a big demand for this lens and the better price can be gotten over here rather than over there so they are going to sell it first where they can get a premium. Those in Japan that will die without it will order it from American and other markets.
After they finish getting their price then it will come out in Japan and then we will probably see a lower price for it here too.
That's my 2 cents as to why it would come out here first.
I hate to say it but why no one so far managed to put a 50 f/1.4 on the same camera to do a quick comparison. A flash picture would help to see sharpness and contrast as well, I think.
