Hi Guys,

Kevin Davis, the Blues pilot we lost last week, was the same gentleman I photographed giving Harrison Ford a ride last year at AirVenture in #7. There's a shot of him doing about a 10G pull 20' off the runway that I posted earlier in our thread. Here he's getting ready to snap a couple for himself of HF in the rear seat.

Hello Jim!

I mailed you like one week ago and told you about how much I like your photos. Thanks for your response too.

I have two quick questions: Do you ever photograph helicopters? What helicopter are your favorite?

If you have photographed any helicopters, could you please post them? I have this thing for helicopters that I have no idea where I got it from since no one of my relatives likes helicopters. My absolutly favorite one is the Black Shark!

Arriving in style. Wish I owned this one.

I don't know if I should leave the palm in the lower left corner or clone it out. I would love your thoughts.

I'm curious if the riders get to use a g-suit just so they can fully expereince the ride and not black out... or throw up. (might happen anyway)

Great shots lately - i can't wait for the next airshow around here!

Hi Jon,

Yes, you wear a g-suit, and while it might help, for the uninitiated, you will still regularly lose your vision and most probably bring home your lunch, (maybe even yesterday's lunch) in a zip lock Glad bag. Is it worth it........!

Hi Dan,

Not that time, it was Harrison Ford. I think he got a bit more than he bargained for during his hour up. In fact, after that first ground level pull he was probably looking for his pap and blankie, I would have been!! Kevin must have thought all that Indiana Jones stuff was real!!

P.S. Did ya see we blew through 80,000 views sometime today!

Jeremy, I'd leave the palm in the shot. It adds a scale and height reference, giving an instant (but unobtrusive) anchor as to the position, distance, and height of the aircraft.

JW,

Hey, thanks Jim! Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. I've had a rough few days at work this week. We have a fill in editor working with us. Experienced for sure but not with our Final Cut system and not with our show so we have been crunching to make the deadlines.

Like the shot of the bone. If not vaporized then flat on their face from the total shock after an unexpected low level pass like that! Enough noise to make one wet themself!

In 1991 I was fortunate to have the left front seat during a five hour training mission out of Ellsworth. We did the usual tanker join and re-fuel, plus a low level run. I was there for video so I don't have any photos but it's seared into my mind as one of the all time best shoots I've ever been assigned. And it still seems like it was yesterday!

Anyway I'm looking for a head-on or 3/4 type angle with the wings swept, preferably air to air. I know it's asking a lot but from what I've seen here I thought you or some of the others may just may just have what I'm looking for!

Thanks again,

Jason

Thanks Tim! Nice shots! I particularly like #3. The general aviation really add a sense of scale plus I see the B-1 is from Ellsworth.

HI Jason,

I have some cool shots of a B-1 taxiing right to me , as I remember, lots of compression with the lens I was using and plenty of heat in the background. I'll find them. They were back in the days of film so I'll have to thow them in the Nikon 9000. Is video your specialty? I'm waiting for FC Studio 2 to be released, just because I think I need a mental beating! I'm getting to know my new Canon XH/A1 a little better, lots to learn.

I guess I should have looked at your profile before I asked a dumb question! Wow!! Impressive. I could use a couple of days in some beautiful spot in Utah just shooting and chillin'.

Jim, question on the stabilizer...I see that you got a KS-6. When you attach it do you attach to the camera body or the lens mount? I'm debating getting something to use as a general purpose IS for all lenses.

This one has some Photoshop work done to it. I would love to know your impressions. It's nothing spectacular and could use more serious work. But I was just messing around and would love to know what the experts think.

Wow! Glad to see this thread so full of life!!

Jim - I have a shoot penciled in this coming Tuesday and Wednesday in DFW. I still need to firm it up on Monday. If it happens are you free for lunch or dinner while I'm in town?

HI Dan,

Where are you shooting? I will do everything I can to be available and look forward to it, keep me posted. Weather looks a bit iffy for Monday through Wednesday. I think 40% to 60% T-storms and cloudy. I had a ridiculous shoot in a new 407 a couple of Saturdays ago, 35 G 48 or something like that, ugh!

Looking forward to seeing you, it's been way too long!

As a newbie to all this high tech gear - I also am curious about how the stabilizer/gyro works. I am supposing its like the built in IS on a Canon lens - only on steroids?

How much weight does it add?
