Probably the best outfit to get either T6 or mustang stick time is Stallion 51 in Kissimmee Florida. They can be reached at (407) 935-0051 This is the outfit that headed up GML in Ohio last month. Lee Lauderback is the guy to meet . He has more mustang hours than anyone alive probably This is a first class place, at any given visit you will run into various warbirds housed in one of 4 hangers. Not including there own maintenance hanger operated by 2 of the most experienced mustang maintenance guys in the country (twins) Pete and Rick Lauderback. Its at least worth the visit coming from Ft. Lauderdale.
I am curious, too, about a website for airshow information. I finally have a schedule that allows me to be off every weekend, and this is one of the things my family and I would like to do.
I found one in Duluth, MN for next year in July, iirc - close for me, but probably not many of you.

Thanks Andy. I haven't yet found anything closer to Ft.Lauderdale. And from your description it sounds like the drive up to Kissimmee may be well worthwhile. More photo ops. I called Stallion 51 and got all the details on their T6 flight options. Now I have to figure out if Dad is healthy enough to take the drive and a flight... without letting him know what I have in mind. Maybe I'll chat with Mom and see...

Thanks damnrookie...We'll keep tabs and a list maybe and find out where the good one's will be at.

www.fencecheck.com or www.airshowbuzz.com
After the ICAS convention late this year the dates will be firm for next years shows and all the info can be found on these websites. Many shows already have firm dates for 2008, just not the performers who will be there figured out.

Each airshow has it's own personality. I'm not sure that there's a bad one out there as long as you know what to expect.
I know nothing about Sturgell. The word on the street is that he was the brains behind Blakley. I guess if you like what she's done then he's your man. If not...it's going to get alot worse.
I'm not as well informed as I should be, but I guess for a foreign citizen I'm more in touch than most. That being said, I'm not much of a Blakey fan, I'll admit. She's been hostile to GA on several fronts without valid reason and against the proven facts; and her sharp about-faces on several issues during her last few days really struck me as just preparing ground for her next job while covering her bases as she retreats from this one.
Her conduct just has always smacked to me of political motivations, and has not engendered trust, if you know what I mean. Of course, I could be misjudging her since I don't know her personally and could be somewhat better-informed. But with the honest caveat that it's based on imperfect data, that is my opinion.
Bill - who knows, maybe we will end up at the same show at some point, it would be fun to run into any number of the folks on this thread, even though I am but a rookie at this type of photography, especially
Bryan - that comment makes sense about the airshows. On Sturgell, well, see below.
Rodolfo - I wish I felt more free to comment here. We have to be careful about our public comments. There are a few blogs that are interesting reads - "faa follies", "the main bang" and "get the flick". Just google those names, and you will find the blogs. The first is written by a number of current and ex controllers, the second by our most recent former union pres, and the last by a retired controller who used to write for avweb. They all take their own approach, and there is interesting and good information in all. Check the news, too; there have been several press releases from the union in the last few days.
I am hoping Saturday to get out to a local airfield to get some practice shooting. I will likely have my 17yo son with me, and we will both give it a run to see if we can find a suitable image or two between us. Sure to be fun, anyway.
JohnVH, love the clarity of the planes tightly cropped in the frame, keep my eye from wondering off the image. Great time of day to shoot, late afternoon evenings. I recently had a second opportunity to do a photo-flight with Team Oracle of the SF Bay as the team of four planes flew in formation as practice, if I don’t screw up the importing I will add a few images here, there are more on my gallery page, “oracleron”
