Sorry I've been a bit scarce lately, my shooting schedule is nuts. The fall weather is reminding all my clients that things aren't going to be green forever so they are trying to get everything shot they can. Good problems to have, just spread a bit thin. I took an afternoon to unwind with my Buddy, "The Great Dobransky" and we drug out the fleet. Before it was all done we had the T-6, a beautiful RV8, the two Cubs,The Waco Taperwing and Joe's S1T spread out on the grass and we just flew till there was no more light. If we ever do get a photo seminar together, this little grass strip would be a great place for the field trip portion, or just to hold the whole thing!
This mystical Cub image is my small tribute to the legendary Jim Wilson. Over the years he has kindly mentored those of us fortunate enough to have crossed his path in Canon Law. This is his Cub in the twilight a few evenings ago at the grass strip that is our local field of dreams…
At first I thought that was a photo of a radio controlled plane (the red bi-plane in the grass) shot with a macro - thats a cool capture!
There is a guy out in California I don't remember his name but he shoots real life subjects like trains and dump trucks or cement mixers at just the right angle and then works them up in PS to smudge out here and there until the peripheral vision effect and "perspective" gives the viewer the feeling you are looking at toys or as a giant would see the scene. Its a very cool effect. I thought that was what you had done on this one. In any case - I like it!
Sensational images Jim. I can understand why you get a buzz out of doing this kind of photography.
How do you get the images sharp at 1/80 sec? Any special technique? I assume you have plenty that aren't sharp, so it ends up being a numbers game as much as anything.
