Perhaps someone will offer a service to those that own the very magnificant 25mm Zeiss, to modify the mount.

You can probably do this yourself... I modified my CV 40/1.4 Nokton to bring up the 35mm framelines on my M6. If I understand correctly, removing material goes from 50->35->28, and from 75->90->135. (Since they're paired.) I wonder about the 24mm frame's tab position though, but my wag would be that it has less material than the 28, so on cameras without 24mm framelines the 24 brings up the 28 frame.

Guy, the answer to your question as the title of this thread is "YES" and one more time "YES", "YES"!

"Stick a Leica lens on your Leica camera; nothing else will do the job as well". That is the response I got from a long time Leica M user when I asked him in person about other lenses such as CV. He is definitely warmer towards the Zeiss ZM lenses though. Is that typical because of false arrogance or blind loyalty to Leica ?

Thanks for sharing your feelings Guy, love your excitment !

So with the magnifier you can see up to 28mm framelines ?

As for the Elmarit 19 R Guy, I thought to keep mine too.
I've just ordered a Leica-R to -M adapter rangefinder coupled at cameraquest.
You actually focus the adapter with the rangefinder, then you look at the distance on the adapter and focus the lens at that distance.
I'll let you know how it works on my R-D1.

Jan:

I pulled out the M7 .85mand mounted my 24mm to it and it brings up the 35mm frame lines, which makes sense, since the M8 pairs are 24/35 at the same time.

I just stepped outside real quick and put the Leica 28mm R with an adapter on the RD-1. This is with no sharpening at f5.6. There is a tiny amount of blurriness at the very corner. But nothing to complain about. It could also be a non-issue on the M8.

Cameraquest listed the wrong price for the rangefinder coupled adapters.

I ordered one at 250 $ (still not cheap), but I've just received an email stating the the correct price is now 350$, a bit too much in my book, considering I only own one R lens (Elmarit 19) and I'll get either the 21 asph or 24 asph.
I asked for a full refund.

Cameraquest listed the wrong price for the rangefinder coupled adapters.

They had the rangefinder coupled adapters listed at $250 just a few days ago with some advertising that is was a closeout special or something similar. I guess the introduction of the M8 put an quick end to that sale special Too bad.

There's four actually, and I'm watching them. I've also asked the sellers for detail info, like if they were coated. The one you refered to is in Canada though, which makes it a lot less interesting (to me). But there's another from the late 40s that's coated and works fine and that the seller claims has no scratches or marks on the glass that I may pull the trigger on.

I think at K&S they keep the pliers and gold scale under the Leica counter!

Of course, if you need more cash and have two kidneys, Stanford medical center is right nearby as well... maybe Mark can hook us both up with a good deal!

Guy,
That's good to know. Otherwise how much do they charge for each lens; do you know that? I would like to get the coding added before hand actualy . I think in Europe they charge about 100 Euros each. I assume the price on this side of the pond will be approximately the same.

absolutely. There's a lot of borderline-silly commentary on Voigtlander and older Leitz glass. CV lenses are great - a different look, but in many situations I find them preferable to modern ASPH Leica glass. That lower contrast can make the difference between losing and keeping highlight detail. Nice for keeping the prices low on old Summiluxes and Elmars, though!

Wow, a new testament and already at 19pp!
The 35 1.4 asph is a great start Guy, have one myself. Expect it will be my main M8 lens. I am also VERY eager to use my 1.0 Noct - with film one has to crop anyway as corners are dark so 1.33 crop will mesh well. Have three other Leica 50's too but the Noct is my favorite. Hopefully Leica will develop some shorter FL luxes!!!
