I have a Billingham Alice (anagram of Leica) - very small and will take a fairly complete M system!!

Hi Rob,

That's true, the generic adapters may not be exact enough. I've had no problems with the CV adapters, however, and they're less expensive.

For those unfamiliar with these RF adapters, it's important to know that when Leica introduced the M system in 1954, they fully intended that photographers would be able to use LTM (Leica thread mount) lenses on the then-new cameras. The adapters are keyed so as to bring up the proper frame lines so using an LTM lens with a proper adapter on an M camera is not as fraught with potential problems as putting a Zeiss on

I should add that the old style Leica rear lens caps have three raised points that engage matching notches on these adapters to make them easier to remove from the camera - use the cap as a spanner wrench (U.S. definition).

Tamrac 601 here.

http://www.tamrac.com/lrg_601-opn-K-06.jpg

It's very small, indeed it can't even accomodate my 1Ds body only...

But I can easily pack my R-D1, 12 & 15 CV, external finders, 28 Elmarit and 75 Apo-Summicron, plus a little table-tripod, SD cards, spare battery etc.

The protection is not very high because the external bag's structure has almost no padding, but it's very comfortable to lug around.

This was the precursor to the Summicron!

I know, I figured that out with a little research. Seems like it became the Summicron in 1962 or some such. Looks like a pretty neat little lens too, being collapsible and all. Just have to remember to uncollapse it before use!

Now I need an LTM 50mm adapter...

What do you think is the right time to sell some uses M-lenses. Now or wait until the M8 is on the market?

Marco,
this Tamrwac (I think at was called explorer1some years ago) is perfect for an Mcamera+2 lenses.
I have used it for many years and its just great.
By the way-you also can fit a 5d+24-105 in this bag, if the sun shade is not on the lens.
Right now I am not sure about the 135apo, I will first want to see how it works on the M8.
I am thinking to sell my Noktilux (its not the latest version though), one Summicron50 (its like new, has still guarantee and has been used only for 1/2 film).

Thank you Tom,
this afternoon I will probably make some Leica-M lenses major purchase, also in the 135mm area.
Need to trade-in many Canon gear though...

Wow, a new testament and already at 19pp!
The 35 1.4 asph is a great start Guy, have one myself. Expect it will be my main M8 lens. I am also VERY eager to use my 1.0 Noct - with film one has to crop anyway as corners are dark so 1.33 crop will mesh well. Have three other Leica 50's too but the Noct is my favorite. Hopefully Leica will develop some shorter FL luxes!!!

I suspect we have a lot of M leica shooters here who shoot film.

Any recommendations for B&W, chrome and color negative 35mm processing who scan at the same time.

I dismantled my darkroom, so want the back end to be digital and i don't want to scan myself.

looking to get a film body to play with til my M8 comes

bill

No framelines on the M8 for 135 mm.. The 135 apo works perfectly however and focusses easily with the 1.25 Okular. (I know, I tried the combo out)

Kodachrome 64 on a Minolta 5400 scanner is fine, but I warn you : scanning eats time and needs a lot of post-processing. I hate it

May be a silly question.
Who is the typical user of an M8?
Not sport and wildlife I suppose. Photojournalism?
Looks very tempting, discreet, low weight and outstanding IQ.

What type of shooter will use the M8?

I'll be experimenting with landscapes. M8 + RRS pano setup + PTGui = digital back quality.

I'm doing this now with Canon gear (1Ds Mk II and 5D). The lack of AA filter and 16 bit pixel depth will be huge advantages for the M8.

For example: 50mm lens on the M8; set up in portrait orientation; take 3 exposures panning horizontally with 30% or so overlap. After PTGui the resulting file has a pixel dimension of 24 megs, and is roughly comparable to a 28 mm in terms of angle of view. With a little practice this is much easier to do than to describe.

I was a heavy contributor to the Canon forum on the RG site before it folded - I've been a lurker here for a while. This is a great community so I hope to start making a contribution.
