Two cents from someone who has been following this post, doesn't subscribe to RR, and doesn't plan on buying the M8 anytime soon...
I respect Lotusm50 for bringing up the touchy subject in a civil and clear manner. I also respect Sean for his contribution to this thread. I agree that it would be helpful for Sean to provide bits and pieces of info from his review, that he refers to on this thread. On the other hand, he has been a strong contributor of info to the thread even without doing that.
The real issue isn't what Sean has or hasn't shared with this thread. It's the potential conflict of interest. Other FM'ers have been banned for doing no worse. Pham Min Son comes to mind. Son did a lot to contribute to the wealth of info concerning Contax-EOS adapters. His only sin was that he also made them available for a fee. I see very little difference in Sean's case. Perhaps the FM moderators are more lenient in this instance because the info Sean is sharing is drawing Leica -M users to FM?
Do you want that another person who supplys very usefull information to the thread would stop posting or even be banned just because it has been the case with someone else?

Hey guys, this is old already! Can we kiss and make friends?. I'm missing the "M8 Love in"
Guy, Could I ask you to give me an opinion on the 75CronAA sharpness and bokeh v's what you remember of the 85L when you get your M8 please.
I'm really in a bind as to which 75 to choose.

This, mate, is not a democracy or even a public place. We are guests in Fred's house and in the end he decides who stays or gets the bum's rush.I'm sure Fred is fully aware of Sean's way of doing things and I have a very strong suspicion that it is not frowned upon.
(this is soooo weird, reading a thread backwards to keep up to date, seems impossible....)
re: Sean/Son...I betcha, the complainers are in the EOS land. Land of the Living Chart Heads. You don't hear "this lens XYZ paints similar to the gummibearlux 50" type of qualitative stuff there. You hear people whining about how the 50 1.2L has a poopoo MTF chart. Ohhhhh well. The parameter types are the more argumentative. I'm a software CEO type and oh boy, what can I say, that basically means "Cat Herder".
re: Love-in...its not a love-in unless people start (sOOOnnn!) to post pics. Get to it! That means you Guy! Some of that cockpit-type good lovin, or, (even better) some of the corporate headquarters painted-with-light-scissor-lift good times. The warehouse interior type detail shots are good too
From a lurker...thanks guys. Its an intense, but friendly group. Most artistic and intelligent folks I know don't get along so well.
Sean,
how good does one see the 24mm viewfinder in the M8?
While having some IQ with the Ricoh GRD this little camera sjowed me that the 28mm FOV is much more flexible than I thought and that leads me to the conclusion, that I want to use something wider than the 35mm FOV (28mm-lens) as my "standard-lens" on the M8.
Now I could use my 21mm lens, but that would mean allways external viewfinder.
OR I could jump on a 24mm lens - 32mm FOV, internal viewfinder.
I used to use the CV 90mm 3.5 with my M6's and it was a very good lens indeed. Stopping down does not improve sharpness which is very good from corner to center. Small. light and flare resistant (some of the earlier Leica 90's were flare monsters) Also look at the 75 which is slightly faster and will act like a 90 on the M8.
I used the 90 APO Lanthar in Nikon mount on my 5D. It is an extremely good lens from wide open on down. I also had the 75 Color Heliar in Nikon mount and found that the edges were soft at all apertures while the center was very sharp. I think that even on the M8 the edges would still be soft. I bought the 90 for use on the M8. I haven't yet shot film with it on my interim M6 but plan to soon.
Thinking about the 28- I've used the 35/1.4 more than anything else on the film M's. I think that I would not be completely happy with a 28/2.8, and I will want more speed. I guess the /2.0 is just a half stop faster (and quite a bit more $$), but with the /2.8 I might always feel like I was missing something. I guess I need that theoretical 28/1.4.
re the 21 - 24. I know that on the short side a few milimeters in fl makes a difference, but 3?? lenses can deviate by 1- 2 degrees and you could conceivably have a 22 and a 23.5.
not busting sorting through this stuff myself
and while 24mm is the widest frames i think if a 21pulled up the 24 frame you'd be close enough?

I mentioned last week that my field review of the Leica M8 would appear this week. Because the M8 is such a rich product (no pun intended) testing is taking longer than I had expected, and so I now plan on publishing my full report next Monday. What I can say at the moment is that this camera is outstanding, producing some of the most remarkable image quality that I've ever seen from any camera, film or digital. Much more next week.
