Pardon me again for being stupid, but is there anyone who is doing these conversions and assuring focus/infinity focus accuracy etc? Or it that the point, Son and you Mr Lotus are trying to do just that?

I definitely have infinity focus. As far as I am concerned, that is not much of an issue.

Lotus, do you own an Elite? I always wanted to track down a '79 Esprit series 1, even if they are supposed to be crap quality. What a stunning machine.

I see you understand where the "lotusm50" name comes from. You are most definately an informed and discerning individual. Yes, I have a 1975 Elite.

"Ya gotta root for the Kinkster!!"

Get your biscuits in the oven....

Heard him on the radio last week and he said this:

"I'm Kinky Friedman. I'm a compassionate redneck and I'm running for governor. I'm 61 years old...too young for Medicare and too old for women to care."

Gotta love that.

The lowest I have seen on a Zeiss N Mount 17-35mm f2.8 was $1086 last month. Quite a bargain for a lens such as this.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&item=150017341827&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

What was better was the minty fresh barely used, very sharp copy of an 85mm f1.4 which went for $800

Anyone been noticing how all the 24-85's that used to be on the list at KEH were gone and are still gone

I just sold one of my 24-85's for $500 which seems to be the average cost of this lens right now...... probably not for much longer. If someone gets the adapter, you get a very nice 24-70L replacement for around $750.

I can't honestly claim to be all that well informed. I do know most of the Lotus models of that era, and some of the newer ones too. I looked it up on Google :) Apart from the fact that almost every hit was something to do with you on one of the apparently many boards you frequent, I did manage to find the connection between the Elite and M50. I thought it might have been a Super 7-variant or somesuch.

I am rather a classic Porsche person (although the Giugiaro Loti are stunning). I am planning to buy a '72-'73 911T at some point.

How is the Elite? I presume you have another car? :)

A couple. A 1974 Jensen-Healey (same Lotus engine as the Elite) and a 2001 Audi allroad.

Nice lineup. I presume you drive the Jensen-Healey on hot summer days, the Elite on cold summer days, and the Audi whenever you need to carry more people or the weather is bad :)

If there were no down-sides to driving classics, I would probably own one by now. Instead I have owned a series of motorcycles. Although the 911T is what I want, I also thought of getting something more practical, like a 911SC or even an Audi TT (which looks great with the right wheels, in silver or black, and horrid in most other conditions). The Interceptor is also a neat car.

Anyway, how are you enjoying the 24-85? Do you use it much? Which of the N-lenses would you most like to have in Canon-mount?

Hi Lotusm50!

I imagine you're very busy at work but I would like to know if you can post some test 100% crops (center/corner) shot at different apertures w/ your 24-85mm. It would be great to see how it compares against the 24-70mm.
If you've not enough server disk space, you can send the images to me via e-mail and I'll be very glad to put them on line.

Ciao!

Emanuele

Emanuele-

Unfortunately, I just haven't had the time to do the in-depth testing that everyone would like to see. I have too much going on. Hopefully I will get a little more done in the next few days.

Ciao bene!

Dear cyberstudio

I see you are working a C645 kit. For those of us with Leica DMR we would like to have a non-autofocus adapter that at least closes the aperture (and exposure control could likely work as well. Hasselblad lenses (MF/MF) work on both C645 and Leica bodies. There is wonderful glass (35, 100 Makro and 350) that would be great for the leica.Registration distance should ot be an issue.

Any possibility to do this? With large image circle it would open up awhole new world of shift possibilities.

BTW, greatinnovation.

Regards
Victor

Just got my adapter for the VS 24-85, but the lens itself hasn't arrived yet. Will let you know how it goes when it gets here. I just did a bunch of tests with a rented Canon 24-70/2.8L against my CZ primes and the primes won (the 24-70 held up pretty well, though), but I'm excited to test this puppy once it's converted! Will share my results as soon as they're in.

Cheers,
-Rob

Still waiting for my conversion to arrive....

Sorry, I was going to try some today, but luck was not having it. When I took the cycle out for some morning exersize today, as I was going down a hill the handlebars broke(!!). Slowing the cycle down with the brake on the remaining intact half of the handlebar, the dangling half decided to swing into the front rim. The bike stopped suddenly, of course, and I went over the top. I now have a bruised sore right hand, and sore left wrist, and chunks removed from my chin, upper lip and front tooth! (Not to mention trashed Campagnolo aero rim and brake/shift levers). No test shots of this event are available. ;-)

Maybe I'll set up a test inside when (if?) the pain starts to subside in my hand.

Now for the important question.... did you have your camera with you at the time.... was the lens hurt

Jokes aside... atleast nothing was broken or permanently damaged...... hoping you have a speedy recovery.
