But yes you're right L Quartz lenses would be very expensive, but Canon may be looking into UV, Nikon discontinued their UV lens in the 90s but Nikon's industrial wing has released a new one
and getting into IR game would be great too, look at how many companies convert digital cameras to extend into IR, don't you think Canon would like to get into that game, then again they sell twice as many cameras by letting others modify and they do not need to warranty the modified ones. I doubt that this will happen but only Canon knows.
Off topic: the real announcement Canon has decided to come out with an FD compatable mount digital,.....

Lots of 1D mark II's and original 1D's for sale on the Buy Sell Forum. People are getting their cash ready for the new body....
Bet we will see many more bodies come up for sale soon...

Yeah, and then when Canon lets us down like they did with the 20Dn ... I mean the 30D, the price of the 1 series cams will go back up. I've been following the prices and have seen this "cycle" the last 3 times Canon was about to anounce something. Great time to by a 1 series ... that is unless Canon really does release the much wanted 3D .... is it worth the gamble? Not for me.

Oh come on HRow, why is this upsetting you? In a billion rumour threads leading into photokina this one stands out why?

I suspect it stands out because in this thread one individual has chosen to make up a bunch of stuff and has then intentionally passed off his fiction as fact. That sort of childish behaviour is something that is common in many other forums but its still something that doesn't occur often here on FM. Granted there are many other rumour threads even on this forum but in those threads those that are merely speculating or wildly guessing say so without misrepresenting themselves.
ROFLMAO - some Canon PR guy is having a field day with you guys. He seeds something trivial and banal and every camera forum worldwide starts convulsing. That way they keep the buzz up and everyone's wallets itching. Then they laugh it all up in staff meetings at the poor slobs drooling over nothing and plan the next one for a week later.
Don't give in to it - go out and take some pictures.
It only makes sense that if Canon introduces a new Digic III chip that it would be in their flagship camera the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II (dont know what the new name designation will be). New technology requires top price and the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II is at the top. Its been nearly 2 years since its announcement. If an EOS 3D is introduced it will still have the Digic II. The Digic III will filter down into the mid and lower level cameras after it has had its shot in the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II

That pretty much describes my sentiments. It is not upsetting but it is sad to see the credibility you had here thrown out the window. If trying to scam people is OK with you then go for it. I was just suggesting that there might be better and/or more poductive ways to spend your time but that's your call. WTF do I care.
My 300D was stolen 3 days ago and can't wait for photokina to see the new models.. So I decided to buy a 30D, that could be used as a back up body in the future..
Before placing my order I have had a little talk with my favorite shop (in Germany), asking them if the had i little information about the new products Canon will introduce at Photokina.
Their answer was very clear : there will be a 400D and another body. No information on the 2nd one...
>>I have been wondering a lot about the 30D.
Why did Canon actually make it? It doesn't make much sense. It's almost identical to the 20D even though 1,5 year has gone by.<<
Because their R&D department earns paychecks every month and have to show something for it periodically.
Actually, Canon has said with each camera release since the 10D that the major thrust of their R&D has been to reduce their cost to produce cameras. They learn how to design cameras with fewer parts that mold more simply, need less post-mold shaping and fitting. The parts assemble more efficiently--faster, with less waste and fewer losses.
The big thing for Canon about the 30D is that it costs them less. I suspect that even with the moderate price drop from the MAP of the 20D, Canon makes more profit per 30D sold because the production costs are even less.
How 'bout a MKIII the usuall tweaks (Digic III, your favorite but impossible pixel count, assignable/reprogramable print button, etc) and an in-camera software enabled dual exposure (double your f stop range count) backwardly convertible dynamic range enhancer?
Naturally this would be with Canon's new hush-Hush incompatible/non standard (secretly coded) software for post processing-called something like "SuperRAW."

It was a cheap, high-profile way to extend the life of the 20D while development of a sucessor continues. Standard practice really. Just wish Canon had seen fit to release a new 20D firmware to give current users most of the new features (like Nikons D70s) but then, along with 1D2 owners, we know that ain't gonna happen.
I had to go off-line for a few days (I had an exam), and look what happened. That teaser - which actually says nothing - got everybody to speculate on this and that. While it's fun speculating I think I need to repeat to calm things down: I know nothing more than I originally said and this teaser is just that, a teaser.
Whayne, I don't know if what you said is a fantasy of yours or not but one thing I got to hand it to you, it is well written. I hope it materialize.
I tend to believe Whayne for this case. Maybe did he just summarized my (and other people) exact wishes, but hey, I love to dream. After all, why not....

That`s why I`m thinking of trade my Canon Gear for Nikon. It seems like Nikon are better in this aspect.
