I've been reading this thread over the past two days, and wow! You guys really are awesome when it comes to single light setups. Jason especially, i love your shots, PP, and models!
I'm picking up my first AB800 with 13' stand, 48" silver/white reversible umbrella and 48" white shoot through umbrella on Wednesday, and can't wait to try them out both indoors and outdoors. This thread has given me so much inspiration, so i just want to thank all of you guys and girls for that
I'll hopefully post up some shots in the not-too-distant future.
I second Harvey's recommendation to stop by www.strobist.com. It is a great resource for off camera lighting using 1 or multiple speedlights. David, who hosts the blog, is about to start Lighting 102 in the next day or so. This is an online class of sorts with how-to, assignments and discussions...good stuff!
There is a cooresponding gallery within Flickr where folks post their "strobist" style photos and offer explanations of their setups.

I love it, and didn't notice until pointed out, but very nice for your 420'th shot....
nice bong too....
Thanks dude. This was actually a loose tribute to two photos of John Coltrane I saw. I swear that having it become my 420th post was not intentional. I'm still laughing about that.
Perhaps it was fated to be.
Of the piece of glass - I'm a huge fan of the hurricane-style bongs. Not only do they hit nicely, but seeing the filtration process in action brings me a huge mental grin.
Highly recommended.
Alright, away from the Sinsemilla talk.
I haven't caught up with this thread in a while. Not only does it amaze me that it's still going on, I'm friggin floored with some of the stuff posted here. Didn't realize how many talented cats are contributing to this one thread.
Keep it up, let's prove that creativity with minimalism can go a long way.

Agfa Scala! I've still got a couple of pro-packs of that stuff in my fridge...I love that stock. It was a headache to print from, but looked so nice.
Lucky for me, there was a place only 15 minutes from my house that developed this stuff. What a great slide film. I think I have one roll left in my freezer. Along with 15 rolls of Velvia (the older, original formula, and a few Ektachromes)
btw, shatterkiss....that is a lovely tribute to a fine camera system.
Single SB800 on lightstand, above and camera right. Shoot through umbrella. (Not to mention a sandbag AND my foot, keeping the stand and umbrella from flying away!)
