Carsten you are a nice man. Actually I am 69 years old and this is my youngest grandson. I have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. But I promise you I do not look or feel 69. Last week I hiked the three mile trail loop down into Bryce Canyon and then back up. No problems. I was puffing a lot less than many of the young people we encountered.
I hope to be posting to this thread 10-15 years from now.
I have included a photo of me my wife took when we were in Bryce last week. I think it would be neat if all the regulars on the Mancuso forums would include a picture of themselves at some point. We would then have a face to put with the names which improves communication IMO
I think the soft circles are linked to DOF and not just sheer aperture, or number of stops below wide open
I've got shots from 28mm at f11 where the circles ar clear, and shots from 50mm f11 where the softness is uniform across the image (I'll upload those later if I get the time).
Anyway it's clear that the softar product info is misleading, as it says the effect of the filter is largely independant of aperture.
I think there's enough info going round to start a specific softar thread!

Yeah, first time out with the softar. This is 28mm distagon at f11, I guess too much DOF.
What aperture would you suggest?
I also have some shots with the softar used on on 50mm lens at f11 and the effect is more uniform, so must be DOF dependent.
It is not necessary to introduce the depth of field. For a more or less uniform
softening effect the light pencil that is accepted by the lens should, for each point
in object space, strike at least one of the microlenses. This happens when the
diameter of the entrance pupil is larger than the typical/average distance
between neighboring microlenses. It's the size of the aperture that counts.

Wow, I hope I would not have been been puffing too much had I been there. You sound a bit like my father, actually, who is a member of a dragonboat club, loves canoeing and goes to the Y in the winter. He is 66.

And in between hopefully :)

Nice shot, beautiful spot. Nice idea too. I loved seeing the others when they posted pics from the Mexico trip. Here is a recent one of me, not so great, because it was taken by an 8-year-old. I am sitting in my kitchen. My shoulder looks huge, because it is a Carl Zeiss Jena Biogon 20mm on the 5D, but really, I am normal size.
Andi, which part are you kidding about? You mean this is not really you?
Guy, you are a megastud. Is that a RRS BH-55 LR and Gitzo (1258?) or are you just happy to see us? :) You've got the bad-assest glasses of us all.
Anden, you never explained about your name. Are you really Anders And or what? You look like 30 years old, max, but you are Swedish, so I will guess you are 55.
I love seeing the faces behind the posts!
Well, my 70-300DO just sold, and the PayPal payment arrived, so as soon as my 24-105L sells, I guess I will be looking for my next Leica lens, either the 180/3.4 (likely) or the 35/2 (also likely, but at the moment slightly less).

Anden is an old nickname that Iīve had since I was a kid. One of my friends has a bad habit of coming up with nicks for everyone. My real name is Andreas. I am actually 26 years old... I donīt know if it is good or bad that I look older :-)
I wouldn't say you look older. My guess of 30 maximum matches 26 well, I think. I am Danish (before I became Canadian or moved to Germany. Nevermind that I was born in Scotland and carry a British passport...) so I am used to estimating Skandinavian ages :)
Here's something from the shoot last week (where I found that my R9/DMR had a wee focus problem). This one is a true hybrid shot, Canon 5D and the Elmarit 60 macro (or the 50 Summicron; one of the problems of hybrids!):
Andi, yes that's indeed one of my girls.
Excellent winter shot, I just love those expressive BW images, thanks for taking the trouble to dig it out. I have that 200 Nikkor M lens too, btw. and a lot of 4x5 and 8x10 negatives waiting for the Epson V 750 scanner to arrive on these shores.
Well, for the purposes of identification only, this was taken in a friend's kitchen; the bird is "Reggie" (sometihng called a 'cockatiel'), seconds after it had sampled my ear.
