After MUCH deliberation, I have decided to sell my 400. I will get some pictures up later. I have used this lense less than 10 times and cannot justify holding onto it. While I have taken some of my best images with it, I just don't find myself using it enough. I will include a tenba bag, an RRS plate, and a 681B pod for 5800, plus actual shipping. Please do not send lowball offers, as it is hard enough for me to sell this as it is. If there is no interest, I will lower the price. I bought this new from B and H a year and a half ago. The seriel is US0814.
OK, let me say again. PLEASE DO NOT PM OR EMAIL ME WITH LOWBALL OFFERS!!!!!!! Remarks like "hey I am interested in your lense, but not at that price! I can get a 500 for cheaper than that!" will be ignored from hereonafter. You can't really compare the 400 2.8 IS to a 500F4 IS. The 400 is heavier and lets in a heck of a lot more light but is harder to travel with for some people. I could go on and on. I hate to sell this lense as it is, but am really forced to do so. I figure the buyer will be saving close to 1000.00 over buying new. If you feel more comfortable spending the extra grand, by all means do so, but please, PLEASE, don't convey your frustration upon me for this not being what you would consider "the deal to beat all deals". I have a good rep on here(I think, cept for mtbakeskier, who might still hate me...lol) and have bought and sold several items. My ebay is fisheshwa if you wish to look it up. I live in Ventura and would be more than happy to drive a couple of hours to arrange a face to face exchange. If you really want, I will drive or ship the lense to Irvine. Nice lens, but out of my budget range right now. I think you just have to hold out for the right buyer .. probably a bad time for such a high ticket item with good old April 15th comming up. On the other hand though some people may be getting refunds soon. So you never do know.
Heh, no thank you. However, while taking pics for potential buyers, I noticed a small speck. While I am sure this has no affect on image quality, I want to not only be up front to everyone inquiring, but call Canon to find out if they will clean it for free.

Here are some pics, they finish on page 3. Canon said a basic cleaning a readjust would run 270.00, including 2 day air to recipient. I will deduct that amount regardless, but you are still responsible for any shipping charges to you or Canon. If, however, Canon decides not to charge at all, I would ask that the money be returned to me. I can't see where it affects images, but it is up to you. This changes the price to roughly 5600.00 SHIPPED 2nd day air. tunaround at Canon was quoted as 5-10 business days.
I will be driving to Santa Monica on Sat to deliver the lense in person, which is really what I prefer to do anyway, as I have already had one 5,000 dollar package disappear from UPS. If it falls through I will go down the list of people who commited. THERE ARE FOUR OF YOU!!! Thanks to everyone who replied.
