The Silvestri sure do look cool but I keep hearing about problems getting them to align properly with the digital sensor and I don't really want to mess with shipping them back and forth to Italy.
Ok, Alpa is its own league of beast, and Andre will be the first to tell you that. We're talking near 10 grand for just the body, forget the helical mount lenses and back...Alpa's are so damn beautiful, especially the new XY...Eventually I'll get a wide cam as my wide solution, but for now the H1 will do.
The XY is the way to go!
I did asked Andre about a price and there was silence!
Also regarding using the Live video outside is just a matter of trying out.
I might try it myself.
Also I've heard that the Aptus LCD is totally unreadable outside.
Is the a company that makes hoods for these backs?
I can see the LCD in bright sun, just need to shade it a bit, but it's usable. If you have to ask the price of an Alpa, look somewhere else. I've had about a monthlong email convo with Andre about getting a used Alpa, but they don't show up often...
The Cambo WDS looks like a better option.
At Calumet you can get one for the H1 series with 35mm Digitar for $6.299 http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/CB07032.html?ac.cat.CatTreeSearch.detail=y&type=SPDSEARCH
You get rise and fall and lateral shift.
The Alpa 12 SWA does give;
The ALPA 12 SWA has 25 mm rise and when you change digital back and lens 25 mm fall. Lateral shift with the ALPA 12 SWA is only possible with:
a) the fix 8mm decentered lenses 38/47/48, where as the 47 XL is the digital one
b) vertically mounted body
The specs on the Cambo Wide DS looks great really. I doubt I'd need more personally and the pricing is very reasonable. The Alpa wins as the best looking camera But I guess it's more about what the camera looks at and not how the camera looks.
David - how come I always have to wait to get something so cool?
Netexpress!
Looking at your gear list,I'm very impressed and I also get the impression money is not in short supplyfor you!
Is this a hobby for you or are you a pro shooter?
Cheers,
Willem.
Willem-
He's an internet guy I'm trying to get him to hire me full time so he can write off his camera purchases!
Guy-
I'm by no means a pioneer in this. Not by a long shot...I've been getting advice on this from other folks who have been using this shit for years already, I'm just sharing that info as much as I can.

My company builds custom UNIX and UNIX clone servers and storage devices and we set up data centers. It's mostly a hobby for me, Willem. I get to some some photography for work but most of that is boring stuff, products, clients sites, etc. I have a lot more fun with the photography I do on my own time.
