Like I said, not sure it makes any difference. More power to them; if only I'd thought of it first! I just was curious to go by and see one in hand, and perhaps buy one OTC instead of waiting on shipping.

On a positive note, hopefully by Wednesday you will be enjoying the advantages of having the HD80s.

I did not receive them yet. According to the UPS, the package is in Sunnyvale and the delivery date has been changed to 2/28. I think the owner may be assigning tracking numbers and shipping the packages manually.

They are almost certainly sorted manually. I had my UPS tracking number about 12 hours before UPS actually picked the package up.

Mine is currently sat in East Midlands airport and should be here Monday.

I finally received the two HD80s. They were NOT worth the 17-day wait.

why were they not worth the wait?

HD80 is pretty awesome and unless there was something better, i dont think there is, a little wait wouldnt stop me from getting a superior product

There is so much I don't like that it merits another thread. Some in depth tests are needed to complete an assessment.

I'd like to hear that, before I spend some good ( and not easy to get ) money on those

I would be interested in what you dislike about the HD80. After using the PD7X and now the HD80 for over a year now, I find that the units perform superbly for their stated purpose. Both units have been reliable and convenient. The HD80 has an improved feature set that has made it even more usable in the field. I have downloaded thousands of shots into them and have not lost a single one because of them. I'm sure one can always find features that you might not like but it sure beats carrying around a laptop and a ton of CF memory in the field.

I wouldn't be afraid that your comments would detract from selling your units unless you have defective ones. If I wasn't set with my gear, I would even buy them from you.

that is a load of ....... sorry i'm not quite as subtle as the others.

you have reasons so let it out. i've only been using mine for the past 8 months in 6 different countries and so far i haven't a problem with it.

and if you think you would have an issue "dumping it" as you would say. i would say you already have by making statements without correlated backing for them.

I agree with sjms.

Just FYI, I have my PD70X for 3 weeks only, but it has been used intensivly without any problems (40+ 2GB cards).

That is somewhat like having a Swiss Army knife and only using the main blade. Sure that one works very well, but if all the other blades and tools are barely suitable, is it still a good knife?

look
you went to the site
you saw the pictures
you read the specs

it does exactly what it says it will do. no more no less.

it is currently the fastest back up device on the market. it will do a CRC check of each individual file, if thats what you wish it to do.

it acts as a external HD at home base.

thats all it really does or even has to do.

it is not a device of amusement.

and yes at this point it is a real good one bladed knife. it cuts sharper and faster the the rest. that is what a knife does.

if you wanted the full set of other utensils you give up things like
standard AA type rechargable
speed
crc checking
simplicity
a high ugly factor
$150+ the HD of your choice

you do get:
a pretty picture
a pretty enclosure
higher power consumption
propriatary battery
the ability to watch movies.
the ability to scratch it up and cry because it was so pretty (see first 2)
$350-$660

These units are not Swiss Army knives! They are designed to do one thing very well, download/upload and temporarily store information from memory cards. They are portable storage devices, nothing more, nothing less.

What else did you want it to do?
