I'm looking at purchasing a 100-400mm IS, but maybe I'll wait until after the PMA. Of course it sound like if they do replace it, it will be with something more expensive.
If only they would make that a fixed 4.0. I'd pay $2500 for one.
I would like a 10 (ish) MP FF camera. Don't care (too much) about FPS. 3 is fine. I have the budget to get (almost!) what I want, but I ain't gonna give up my life savings.
5D is crap. Why? Cos it doesn't have a built in flash! May seem trivial to you guys.... but I want this camera to be a P&S too. Christmas (topical) photos don't work with 'just wait a mo while I get my flash!'.
I would like a 10.5MP 3FPS FF for around £1200.
I only intend to get L series lenses (means staying in for weeks at a time, but hey!) so I am investing in a canon future.
I hope canon give us a 10.5MP 20D without all the fuss of the 5D - I only want manual!!!
3D is likely, but not until PMA 2007, where it will be the 5D replacement, similar resolution, but a 5fps body with 45 point AF and FEL (Just what the EOS 3 was to the EOS 5), probably cheaper too. Canon can't do that until they bring the 1D/1Ds together, otherwise it may cannibalize 1Ds sales.
markshaxted: keep dreaming. Onboard flash is a strictly consumer/amateur feature, and isn't likely to show up in FF bodies until all non-rebel bodies are Full Frame. The only kicker here is if Canon ever adds Wireless Commander capability to the onboard flashes.
the new Canon 30D with 45 AF points and Eye Focus as well as a one piece design like the 1D series.... probably too close to the release of the 5D but who knows
I'm thinking that there will be a 20D replacement that's an incremental improvement. 10MP, 6-7 FPS, less noise, and perhaps improved AF and/or spot meter sounds about right. A moderate price drop to about the current 20D prices would also be in order.
How do I know this do you ask? ... Well, I don't know this. It's just a hunch.

I'm bored, so here my statements:
-> there is no market for this. The 350D is already very cheap, people who want less buy a P&S
-> no sense in doing minor upgrade on a model like this, and the D70 is more like a competitor to the 350D anyways
-> the most probable from my point of view. although I see a a problem with sensor size and increasing resolution (probable testfield for Digic III ?) Voted for that one.
-> the 5D is already called a "niche"-product. This would be a niche inside a niche, getting very small if you ask me. Specially it would mean taking the 5D and cut down some more features to compensate for the low price but keep in the FF. Wouldn't do any good.
-> from what canon said, unlikely. Next new pro body should be the get together of the 1D and 1Ds lines. If that's it, what's the point of the 1D Mk2 N?
-> have no clue about EF-S and what they plan, I don't really care either.
-> I put both in the category wishful thinking...
-> Now this is MY wishful thinking....
-> haven't see those pics, but heck, I'd buy Canon-Phone...
-> Although many would not like to see that (I also think it's a nice compromise) I'm pretty sure this is going to happen sooner than later.
-> this would be a pretty cool lens, and then again, I'd have to sell my 70-200 4L
Man, I must really be bored. On the other hand there is hardly any more fun time, then during rumour season. That also where I get all my posts from
So, got to put my washing on the line ...Show more →

It's pretty clear that 1.6x is here to stay for the amatuer market, so the new DSLR at PMA to replace the 20D will be incremental improvements. Improvements yes, but nothing that can't be expected. Maybe they will lower the price too.
Canon is on a path that introduces 3-4 new DSLRs per year; I don't see any reason to think that will change. New amatuer cam at PMA, new pro at Photokina, and a new entry level in summer.

I'm thinking Winter Olympics = sports shooting stuff ; timing is coincidental with PMA as well. So think dim light sports shooting (200/2IS) and maybe an interesting high performance zoom.
That would be a to late launch wouldn't it, I mean for the winter olympics
I am kind of dissapointing to see such a need of a replacement to the 20D and not a good lens such as 70-200L f/4 w/ IS or wide angle under 28mm w/ f2.0 or better.
Guy M. is like EF Hutton (if you're old enough to remember those commercials and live in the US).
Bring me a 30 or 35mm with 1.4 or 1.8 that has the same IQ, build, and price as the 85 1.8 - you can make it an EF-S if you like. The 70-200 f/4IS sounds great but how many 70-X00 lenses do we expect Canon to make?
Wouldn't it be the funniest thing ever if Canon came out with a EF-S version of a 50mm 1.2?
