It is the latest 1 series film camera that was made and is still in production. I own one and sadly do not use it becuase I shoot mostly digital now. It is an awsome camera and if you have the funds and desire to shoot film by all means get that camera.
Get with the times, who uses VHS these days Get a EOS 1DVD instead!
Seriously though, the EOS 1VHS is a really good camera, and I read a quote somewhere that goes something like "The finest 35mm SLR camera ever" Can't remember where I read it, I think it was in a Canon brochure or something?
Anyways if you have the money, and like to shoot film (And not just the occasional roll) then the 1VHS is the way to go. Also the EOS 3 is a nice camera with the powerdrive booster.
Get it Lateralus: it's a series 1 and this means that quite all photographic controls are the same as for digital Series 1 bodies, as it is the 100% viewfinder. Mine one is not so much used these days but I'm not going to get rid of it for now.
Otherwise you can get a very good used one for a cheap price as quite everybody are selling them to go digital: in Italy you can find them in perfect condition for about 900/1100 Euro.
Ciao, Carlo
They come up used or refurbed as well. "Worth it"? Well, that really depends on a lot of things. For still life photography, almost none of its attributes are going to be used. For outdoor sports, you will use many of its features.
Two notes:
- The data cable is kinda cool and fun but probably overpriced.
- You might want to consider getting the plain grip or the non-HS model. I really wish they included the plain grip in the HS. The power pack makes it into a monster and really the body is fast enough for 99.99% of things without the power pack; with smaller lenses for things like street shooting, the full powerpack really makes it oversized. It is nice with the larger lenses though.

... do i need that cable? really?
.. i like bigger cameras... i have big hands and it is a bit anoying (for me) to use small cameras...
i got the 1n-rs instead... due to budget constraints. $500 at auction site, and I love it. The pelicle mirror loses 1/3 stop, but it is great otherwise... 10 frames per sec. Love it.

Refurbished; for the one I have, taken into service for a tune-up and cleaning, and restored with all its accessories/manuals. These are often loaners or demo's. The one I have is indistinguisable from new outside of the shots taken (about 9000). Sorry about the slang; I usually look at the country of orgin as a guidline but missed it...

That isn't actually all that much. By the time you wear out any body at that rate, the cost of the body will be insignficant compared to film, etc.

No, not really. Not all that useful really, but nice sometimes to know your exposure info.

Hmm .. I hear this a lot and it always makes me wonder. If you are using the body with a light lens, no death grip is required; a light grip in one hand will more then suffice. I think people might be over-grasping their bodies In any case, a 1V is not small, with or without the power-pack. It depends on what you intend to use it for; for example, for street the power pack is a definite disadvantage as it makes the camera non-touristy and obvious, changing how people view you. In any case you will have to find out for yourself whether you like it or not.
