p.6 #1 · Canon "Sleeper" lenses

Yeh the 15mm fisheye is a great lens, but I woulden't call it a "Sleeper" as alot of pepole use/own/talkabout this lens.

It is great though, I used one on my Elan 7e!

Oh and DavidP

A few mentions of the 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.
Ba aware there are three versions:
http://photonotes.org/reviews/ef-lenses/
(About 1/2 - 2/3 of the way down).

A sleeper from 1990 is the
35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM

What about some of the older lenses?

Like the magic drain pipe 80-200 L

Im shure there are more old skool legends out there that don't get the respect they deserve!

The 28-105/3.5-4.5 USM (metal mount) is a heck of a lens for its range and price, great quality and very sharp.

Absolutely - it's a sleeper if there ever was one. Great range, great price, and very good image quality, especially stopped down a bit.

9 pages and no one got it . Hmmm the 15mm fisheye

You're right. And it is a sleeper. Very sharp, very wide, and surprisingly good in terms of flare. There's a reason that Canon hasn't upgraded this lens for a good while - they don't want to mess with a good thing.

35mm 2.0.

€1000 cheaper than the similiarly performing (on a 1.6 body at least) 1.4 version.

Nobody has mentioned the 28-70 f2.8 L? Oftern overshadowed by the 24-70 and now 24-105.

Still a good lens and can be picked up quite cheap these days.

Have to agree with the 28-105, it's a very nice lens for the money.
Also, the 400mm f5.6L.

Yeh 20-35 is a true sleeper with little talk about it, a good cheap way to get into wide angle photography on a film camera.

I second 24mm f/2.8. Especially for film and full framedigital.
Focuses very close and gives wonderful here-to-infinity
pictures. Looking for similar (light and compact replacement
for 1.6x digital camera. *sigh*

My first vote is for the 50mm F1.8. Its cheap, small, super lightweight (especially the mark II) and performs well in low light. What I like best about this lens is the close focusing distance which makes it truly a gem when working intimately with your subjects.

My next vote would be for the 85mm F1.8. Slightly bigger and heavier, but still makes stunning images.

I thought we were talking about 'sleeper lenses'. Most of these mentioned are not sleepers. I think the 28-105 cheapie plastic and the 20-35 non L are two real sleepers. When you hear people talk about sharp lenses, you do not hear those two mentioned.
