I guess I expect that if I were Canon I'd be looking to spike Nikon's D2X.
5, or even 4 fps would move it up a notch in perceived value as a competitor to the D2X.

Guy, you just don't seem to get that only a small percentage of people care about perfect sharpness to the corners. There are people getting results they are very happy with using other Canon zooms on the 1Ds2, why should this be any different?
I personally will be very interested in the 24-105 IS *if* it can produce better results than the World's Sharpest 28-135 IS [tm] that I already own. --c
My personal thinking is that with the release of the 5D, Canon knows that full frame is going mainstream. They will now have corrected the problems with wide angle and the 24-105L will be just as good in the corners as the Zeiss 21.

Chasseur D'Images has usually got its stories about 99% correct --so I'd definitely believe this one although as usual all bets are off until "Official" announcement.
I'm glad I never went the EF-S route --even Sigma in making its "Digital Only" lenses made them so they would work on a standard EF mount so you could use them on such cameras as the D60 / 10D etc.
Actually this 5D looks very good indeed -- It may well complement a 1D2 (which I'm NOT giving up at all) in those areas where a 1Ds2 is just too much (weight, file size etc etc).
The 5D especially at FF looks just one amazing piece of gear at its price --- remember for a pro or top end amateur 3,000 EUR will be recouped back very quickly indeed.
The 5D PDF indicates it only has a CF card slot. Like many of you, I have a significant investment in CF cards. I can tolerate the SD slot in my MkII because I only use it as my reserve tank.
If the specs are true, I am very happy to see Canon go back to just a CF slot. Although I would still welcome a body with both slots.
My fear was that Canon would be moving towards bodies with only SD slots.
#1 I'm wondering why the CDI story is considered a 'confirmation' when they clearly indicate their source is the already suspect PDF. They did add that they are going to a big press announcement with Canon next week, but everybody already expects Canon to add lots of items before christmas season.
#2 There are some things in the PDF that if true would give me pause to buy this camera (though I have waited quite a while since selling my EOS 3, having a KissD doing fill in until I get what I want at the price I can afford.)
a) The EC and FEC are only +/-2 stops which would indicate we would not get the bar graph on the viewfinder side (ala EOS 3 and all the 1D series), but rather the dinky little bar graph on the bottom. This could indicate that as a whole the VF information is no different than a 20D.
b) Likewise no multi-spot metering.
#3 The pictures could be quite real, but the PDF was merely a draft with lots of creative fill added before actual data was released by Canon to the ad agency. In which case it might not be a FF sensor at all, but rather a 1.3x sensor, and in which case further the street price could be quite a bit lower than $3500, maybe closer to $2000. This would make it more a real item for most folk around the world, and more likely to be a Christmas gift.

Two slots for both CF and SD cards with backup function, is for the 1 series bodies.
I'm sure Canon will have it on their next 1 series body.
Id love to see TWO cf card slots with the ability to write to each of them at the same time
even SD and CF would be great IF you could write to both at once.
when doing event work/weddings, being able to create that backup on the fly is a really valuable feature and anyone who has ever put a CF card into the reader and gotten a error message due to data corruption will atest to how useful of feature it would be
Anything at this point is purely speculation but if the specs in the PDF are anywhere close it's easy to see that the 5D is pretty much a full-frame version of the 20D..... albeit sans flash.
I would expect the AF characteristics to be identical to the 20D.

Or the alledged 3000D that would have come out before Christmas last year?
The new top end model wont be out in a hurry, here in the UK the 1ds mk2 has a backorder of 2000 models.. so cannot imagine coming out with a new topliner till the backorders are all fullfilled

actually, here in america, i seem to remember a massive backorder on one of the early d- cameras from canon. d30 or d60 i believe (at least in my area it was on backorder for quite a while). they had a massive backorder and when the next in line was announced, tons of backorders got canceled.
