Just cant understand why you cant stand to see people having some fun if rumors and gossip are their thing.
Because this site has not always been that way, and for some of us, the transition from a thriving community of artists and photographers to a gearhead dominated rumor mill is an unfortunate one. These discussions yield nothing substantive except for the knowledge that some people who barely know how to use what they already have nonetheless pine for more. I wonder how it's possible to spin that mentality into something positive?
I owe a lot to this site, and still routinely glean useful information, critique, and advice from presentation and general boards, but the Canon forum has become almost useless as a place to help improve one's photography, and that is sad. The Nikon users are doing a lot better in their forum.
I can honestly say that, had I just started shooting yesterday and had joined this site today, it would not have the same effect on me as it did two years ago. On the contrary; I probably would be a gear obsessed collector unable to shoot anything but a test chart, rather than someone who strives to improve his art by seeking inspiration and knowledge from others.
The obsession with gear has definitely become more prominent lately. Not that it ever really wasn't a pretty sizeable chunk of the Canon forum, but it seems to have become the biggest chunk sometime in the last 6-12 months.
As for the 2D, that's a pretty bad chop job.

Awww Aaron, why spoil a perfectly good ps chop job by putting that godawful dial on it. Otherwise you could have sent it to Canon with my hearty support saying "I want this"! (but I would need the aperture stop down button).
By the way, this design would struggle with the CF card arrangement dur to the battery requiring the same space.
