Suppose the 5D is for real and its price would be more or less equal to the price of the 1DmkII, which would you buy?
Though I've been looking/waiting for a FF camera, I think I would choose the 1DmkII:
1) Faster AF, more FPS
2) Robust body etc...
3) Now I've used the 1D for 18 months, I think the 1.3x crop is a good compromise (1.6x is still too much for me though)
4) I have grown a 1-series addiction
Is it just me or is anyone else a little disappointed that this camera isn't a little closer to the top-end?
I was hoping for something a little closer in concept to the 1-series, like the EOS 3 compared to an EOS-1V.
This thing looks more like an EOS 5 in comparison.
The 5 never did it for me but the 3 could have.
Oh well, looks like the 1Ds2 is gonna have to be it, more debt
I think most people probably retain some skepticism, but there's at least enough circumstantial evidence to make it plausible that there's no point prefacing every comment with "If this is real...".

That's right. EF-S by it's very nature will always be a non-pro line, that's why you won't see it on pro cameras.
This is what the 20D is for.
Don't forget that EF-S is still supported on the 300 and 350.
I agree but also I don't think the 20D will be dropped when the 5D - or whater the real camera might be if this is a hoax. It's features set and price range are perfect for advanced amaterus and certain pros and semi pros. That will leave the 300D, 350D and 20D which will all use EF-S lenses.
Have you noticed that the strap lug on the side of the camera is missing on the one showing the view from the back? There are also some lines on top of the prism on the back view camera (seemingly indicating a built-in flash?) which are missing on the front view (though this is harder to tell). The 20D shots readily show both the strap lug on the side of the camera in the back view shot and the lines on top of the prism in both shots.
I hate to say this but the front shot looks to me like a Photoshop mixture of a 20D and a 1V and the back just a played with view of a 20D. I think you've all been had.
If this is for real, I’m a bit let down. Am I crazy or is this simply a full frame 20D! Not that that’s a bad thing. It’s just that was hoping for something new.

This kind of thing happens with every leak or faked leak. When the 17-85IS came out there were a bunch of people here that were nitpicking the early images (that were real) with things like "the font is wrong on the text," and "see if you take a 28-135 and photoshop this and that it would look just like that fake picture." Same thing happened with the early 20D photos.
If it isn't the real thing we're close enough to the introduction of whatever to have some reasonable discussion about the merits of certain features in the marketplace. Since we can't get around the speculation, I'd rather read about all the pros/cons(real or not) rather than all of the skeptics pointing out little idiosynchrasies of the "scam" that "got us all." If it's not real we've lost nothing so I'm not sure how we're "had."

It's more like a 1Ds in a small body. You bewdy!
It has been the bulky 1 series bodies that has been holding me back from going full frame. I want full frame for the image quality that it brings - 1Ds users will know what I mean. (There are heaps of options for going wide with 1.6x).

If this is for real then I'm interested in it. I would like a full frame digital with higher res to complement my 1D2, but the noise level of the 1Ds turns me off and the 1Ds2 is out of my price range. This 5D would be an ideal fit for me as I'd have my 1D2 for track and action photography and the 5D for glamour and style shots. Plus each camera would be a competent backup for the other.
What I'm more curious about is what this "1DMkII N" is....
I'm not interested either. Was really hoping for something closer to a 1D in a full sized body w/ a 1.3 crop. And after the 20D grip mess, who wants to mess w/ another grip? Too much like a 20D and not enough like a 1D. Really hope this is a hoax and we get much better news in 2 weeks.
But where is my D2X killer. I want speed and pixel density. A 5D maybe a nice companion to a fast camera, but the 1D2 needs a bump to 12.5MP to keep the D2X at bay. I want a 1.3x sensor for now. It will be another 18 monts or so before Canon can release a fast (as in 9fps) FF camera of say 22MP+, that costs < $5K. So a 1D II N would need to be more than a D2Hs revamp.
And how is a $4000 camera a tweener. We still end up with massive gap from 20D to 1D2. I was expectting a $2500 camera. A faster improved 20D or a slower, smaller 1D2.
