Anyone know a shop in Canada that sells Tokina online?

That's a good question.
CameraCanada.com and SImon's dont seem to carry any Tokina lenses.
You could always order from BH in NYC.
Even with shipping, you probably would save money anyway.
You only pay PST+GST and there are no duties.
Just make sure you select US Post or Fedex, not UPS who have huge brokerage fees.

Well, it caused the Err99 problem again, plus I can't seem to get wide shots in focus very well, but for the Err99 problem alone, I shipped it back and I'm in process of getting a 17-40L shipped to arrive tomorrow as I am leaving this weekend and need a wide lens. I hope that the first one that arrives works well, if not, I'll keep returning them until I get one that does, I had given up on the 16-35L but will persue the 17-40 until one arrives that works as advertised, hopefully it will be on the first try!!!

This post will never die.
Gary I can't to understand, that yourself you want to get rid of this splendid lens, on divine love only not 17-40L, you will be again unsatisfied, rather go for 16-35L

lesterix, I had borrowed a friends 16-35L that worked great, but the two copies I received both had problems, so I split that money into two lenses, the 200L f2.8 and the Tokina, and the Tokina caused the lockups, if it had stopped doing it, I'd have kept it, but it didn't stop.
While I'd like the 16-35L if I could get a good copy, now I can't afford the faster lens and will settle for now with the 17-40L, where I can also use on my film bodies for those times I need to, the occasional wedding I get dragged into doing from time to time.

It does baffle me this kind of thing. People who go through 2 or more copies of a Canon lens, try ONE third party lens and abandon it because of some real or imagined problem for another Canon in a totally different focal range.

The Canon lens in this range is, of course, the EF-S 10-22. Is there some strange reason you didn't go for one of them Gary? I have and like a 17-40L. This isn't stopping me adding a Tokina 12-24 (if I'm lucky it should be delivered tomorrow).

It's sort of going back to close to what I was wanting originally, the 16-35L, so moving to the 17-40L isn't too much of a stretch. I went to the Tokina on the recommendation of a friend, I had the Tokina 17mm which was very sharp and nice so some history with Tokina. But in all, the 12mm or the 10mm is more likely also too wide for my shooting style so it's just back to square one, what I should have done...was to persist in getting a good copy of the 16-35L but after the frustration and $$ of sending two back, I was tired and with the Tokina, didn't want to go through that again either. A little more wary, but when the 17-40L arrives, I'll be more persistent in getting a good copy. By most reviews, it's a very good lens.

I too can vouch for the Tokina 17mm ATX lens.
It's extremely well built, and produces great images.

17-40L finally arrived today, went home and waited from noon till 5pm!
it was like watching water boil
But I do believe that the third time's the charm, lens focuses fast and smooth, images are sharp. Just in time for my trip this weekend! whew!

Got my Tokina 12-24 yesterday. Took this from the catwalk at HS band concert. It looks good from my undisciplined eye, but interested in feedback from others.
ISO 800, 1/50th at f/5.6. Shot RAW and converted in Rawshooter. Some mild processing and sharpening in CS.

Drbob, are you asking for a critique of the composition, or an opinion about the quality of the lens?

Because a small web photo like this can't really be used to determine lens quality. Any lens of that focal length could produce a 640x480 photo that looks like this one, as long as it didn't have a lens element knocked loose or similar damage.

If you'd like an assessment of lens quality, post an unprocessed 100% crop or provide a link to a full-resolution photo.

Finally got mine delivered today. Not had time to do much but a couple of quick tests to make sure it's working. First impressions are that even at F4 it's SHARP. Better in the center @F4 than a Tamron 28-75 at 28mm & F4, not quite as good at the edges. Pretty good for an ultra-wide angle lens wide open.

OK, here's a starter for 10, plus 100% corner crop (shot @ F8). Some CA as far as I can see, but nothing horrible.
