For the past few months, I've been working on a photography project close to where I live, challenging myself to look for landscapes in ordinary places. It can be a lake, a forest or an inland fjord. All within 30 minutes of home. I've been thinking of it as my backyard project. Can I find something more in places that seem quite ordinary and unremarkable?
I've often found these places beautiful in the right conditions. But turning that atmosphere into a photograph is not always easy. I dont know what it is, but some places are just difficult to capture in a good way.
Below are some results from this project. As with most of what I shoot, the photographs were either taken with a monochrome camera or converted to black and white in Lightroom. The common factor in all of them is mist and fog. I find that the morning conditions that produce mist often help me separate elements in the landscape, creating layers that I hope give a sense of mystery or movement.
I'll continue my backyard project going forward, but appreciate honest critical feedback. Both on the individual photographs and whether they work together as a series.
