p.1 #1Major problem with UPS shipment - Advice solicited
I live in Tampa Florida and just sold a $5,300 camera to a buyer in Puerto Rico. I normally maintain a CONUS only policy, but made an exception this time (big mistake!). I had done transactions with Canada with no problems and I reasoned that Puerto Rico is a U.S. Territory.
The Buyer paid with PayPal Goods & Services and I shipped-out using PayPal’s shipping service. Due to the value of the package the only carrier choice they listed was UPS Ground, which I used and paid for. (with insurance).
I shipped last Thursday and the next day received a UPS communication saying I needed to complete a Power of Attorney form that I was able download. The form was for corporations, asking for the Corporation name, EIN, etc. I sent the form back with the explanation that this was a private party transaction and no corporation was involved. The UPS tracking website continued to show “Stuck in Customs waiting for paperwork”.
On Saturday, the buyer called UPS (the usual 50+ min wait time). He explained the situation and the UPS representative said that the problem was resolved, no paperwork was needed and the package would be released from Customs, and their website would be updated.
That was Saturday and as of Tuesday, the status did not change. I called UPS (90 minutes total call time). The representative said they needed the paperwork. I took the representative through the paperwork line-by-line and she agreed that it was not appropriate or needed. She put me on hold for fifteen minutes and came back and said it was all resolved and that the package would be immediately released. Well, nothing has changed a day later. It is still stuck in Customs with no estimated delivery time.
I’ve certainly learned my lesson about shipping outside CONUS; however, does anyone have any suggestions or phone numbers I can call to resolve this situation? You can PM me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you, Jeff
