A very sharp, thin, non-flickering, white line has suddenly appeared in the EVF of my Sony A7RIV camera. It's right across the centre from one side to the other. It does not appear in the LCD or the photos, but it does appear when using the EVF menu. What is it? Will it get worse? Is there anything I can do?

Any idea how quickly it will go? I have a two week photo trip planed next week.
Precision is Sony's authorized repair facility in the USA. It looks like you are in Germany, so I don't think that would work for you. Is their a local repair facility you can try?

I'll have to look up the local Sony repair shop. I'm interested in whether this is a sign of continuing, immediate degradation or whether I can live with it for a while, and risk using it for my trip.
Best to know where your money goes. The web is your friend:
As an input to the parts - to separate that part of any bill from the service cost of the swap :
'A replacement electronic viewfinder (EVF) block or part for the Sony a7R IV / a7R IVa typically costs around AU $122 to AU $150 (approx. US $86) when purchased as a genuine replacement part online'
They cost all of fifty bucks to the camera maker!
Professional Service: Official or third-party repair centers (such as Precision Camera Repair) typically quote $500 to $600 for a full viewfinder or assembly replacement. ..see..

Another solid reason to not buy a new age Leica, they are another crowd that is detached from the realities of the brave new world of electronics and the implications of a failing economy - the EV-1 is just the start for them:
'Repair Policy: Leica services internal hardware (such as integrated electronic viewfinders) *exclusively through official factory repairs or authorized service centers*, where parts and labor are quoted on a case-by-case basis after inspection rather than sold as a component.'
Them cases, they are all so different, only we know how to fix all the cases. The EVFs are 'integrated', after all! Our repair staffs' hands are different, how could anyone else's hands compare? Oh, OK.
