I've been doing some 35mm film photography and embarrassingly after getting about 5 rolls developed remembered that I bought a 35mm film scanner back in 2003 and still had in sitting in my basement. I'm getting it back up and running and was curious what people use and why? I see Vuescan, Silverfast, and NLP in Lightroom (although I think I still need a scanning software to interface with my scanner to get the negative in digital).
For reference the scanner I have is the Nikon CoolScan V ED and I'm using on a Mac. Vuescan was working for me this summer ok, but suddenly when I have gone back in it craps out on me very frequently and needs to restart. So far, the test of Silverfast seemed impressive, but I only went through there guided scan mode. The rest of the interface did not seem that intuitive to me, but would just need to be some muscle memory.
Would love to hear feedback from what other scanners do and I'm hoping to make this Coolscan work for me. I thought it did a great job on our wedding photos, but I'm petty sure I was using Nikon Scan but I was on windows back then.
