RF Pancakes…

p.1 #1 · RF Pancakes…

Now the evenings are drawing in I’m starting to reflect what lenses I actually use. My most used is both the ef-s 24stm and ef 40stm mainly on DSLR’s and adapted to R bodies too

I know Nikon do the Z40/2 and part of me now is weighing up the possibility of trading in some canon gear to fund maybe a Z5ii along with the Z40/2 as I’m now doubtful canon will release a RF 40mm pancake - especially given the release of the 45/1.2 which seems to be just a one trick pony… namely it’s 1.2 aperture, the penalty for which is well documented on the web. Big, bulky, cats eye, chromatic problems, poor close focus etc etc

Do any of you canon guys have experience using the aforementioned Z5ii/40mm ??

I’m still keeping my canon stuff but I’m also wary that I may get sucked down another Rabbit hole… the big Z 100-400 sounds awesome for football and I suspect the Z5ii would probably deliver.

All this is because of my frustration having to compromise between either RF50/1.8 which I find too tight, the RF35/1.8 which is big and bulky and the 35 gives a different look to the 40…..speaking of which I have to use with the adapter.

My 40 does double duty as both a walk around lens and what I take to sons football games for team shots. I could theoretically survive with just the pancake 40 and 100-400 plus my phone which is approximately 28mm. Everything else is pretty much surplus.

Do any of you think canon may release the RF pancake 40mm ??

Have you considered the Leica Q3 43? It's not a pancake but a fixed lens with a perfect normal angle of view.
